Hey there again everyone. I already have painted my interior, but am not happy with the stickiness on the vinyl parts (top of the dash, and door panels). I was wondering, if I was to re-do the interior and sand down and prime the vinyl pieces, then paint, would that be better? Or does anyone have any other idea's? I need some help with this one!! Thank's, and looking forward to your replies!
You can't paint vinyl. You can buy dyes for it and what not, but you can't use the interior paints on it. If you want to paint the dash itself, you'll have to remove the vinyl and all the glue, sand it down and paint it like your other interior pieces. The problem is, that when you remove all the vinyl, spongy padding, glue, that the top vent, bezel, etc won't really fit like it used. It may look a little out of place actually. Same goes for any other vinyl on the interior of the car. You might want to look into dyes, or consider removing it to paint it.
I don't know where everyone gets that the Vinyl "can't be painted"
Here's mine.. and it's workin out just fine...
VVVV that picture was before the rims.
Well..I've been told by some people that you can't paint vinyl and by some people that you can. This is a pic of my interior. I like the look of it yet it's just that it gets sticky in the sun. Mabee I'll try some dye or leave it, not sure yet, haha. Thank's for checkin in and your help!
Even with it painted, your interior looks pretty bad ass.
was it hard to pull out your dash
sorry but those look tacky
if you're gonna do it, why not do it the right way. im sorry but straight painting vinyl is just being lazy IMO.

Because "paint" is not "designed" to "cure" on "vinyl."

If the roof and dash would just be done, it would look good. Having the roof, a-pillars, visors, dash, etc with the same look is over kill in my opinion and makes it look tacky. The design is badass though.

I read on here that it could take about 45min...dont know why...I got it off in 20 minutes my first time, and in 10-15 the 2nd time...its only about a dozen screws holding on the dash pad...

If you remember the location of the screws, you can have it out in less then 5-minutes. There are (2) screws inside the glove box, (1) on the passenger side after you remove the small panel on the side of the dash, (2) under the center vent with (1) screw holding the vent on itself, then (1) screw on the drivers side next to the dash when you remove that small panel.
Hey guys, I just picked up a can of this "Vinyl and Fabric" stuff by Duplicolor at my local hardware store. Does this seem like a safe bet for the vinyl dashpad, or am I likely to have the same problems as any other paint? It says it'll do fabric too, so I'm guessing this is more of a dye? Anyone try this stuff?

Good to know, thanks.
Alright, now for a possibly stupid follow-up question: Can a dye product like "Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric" be used on solid plastic pieces as well? Or had I best pick up a can of Krylon Fusion for other dash pieces?

I used the Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric on my doors awhile back, worked really good. As far as the plastic goes, I used just a regular gloss black. I didn't want to take any chances of the Duplicolor not adhering to the plastic and then have to redo it. here's a pic of it.
I used it on my Sunbird's dash...
Held up great, no issues with it all the way up to the day the car left me...
Wow, this helped, thanks guys, i think ill go dye, the duplicolor stuff if i can find it on the vynal and then regular stuff for the regular plastics... any one have a place i should be able to get that dye? I want a gloss black, thanks
