I just have a simple question about the dash crack that occurs on the Cavaliers. Would losening the bolts that hold the dash to the chassis prevent this from occuring? (I know rattling will occur) If so where are these bolts?
um...........no. rattling would more than likely speed up the process. you gotta remember, it doesnt happen to everyone. im sure there is something in common we all do to crack out dashes.
True I was thinking about that, i'm thinking it could be the temperature thing... hot/cold I live in Canada so I experience both. Although I don't see any cavys with dash cracks around. I have found a solution for mine though if it becomes bad, I found some fabric at a local fabric store that resembles the stock dash pad, I'm gonna buy some and put it on.
I don't think you can really loosen anything in there. That whole piece is the main assembly of the dash. If it was easy just to unbolt it or loosen it, I think people would've came up with a much better solution to preventing or fixing. Basically there isn't really anything you can do to prevent it since it happens to some, but not to all, and everyone does different things with their car.
dont know if its just what i belive or what but i say keep that bitch armor-all'd so that it stay moist and doesnt dry up and get brittle.
take out the front defroster vent, locate a brass 7mm bolt on the upper left corner.. simply loosen the bolt a lil bit.. Should help with it cuz it i beleive that bolt has been overtighten. but like said it varies.. In my 00 i did it right when i bought it and drove it for 4 years and was in 2 front end wrecks and it still never cracked.. one wreck totaled the car and twisted the frame and it still didnt crack. Now in my current Z i bought it and it already had 2 cracks in it.. one directly in line with the bolt i mentioned to loosen..
armour all will actually cause havoc of your dash pad i quit using it because it cause more cracks than it prevented its like putting tire shine on your tire yeah it looks good but cracks the hell out of your tires
