Where to put the cd player?
Friday, June 16, 2006 11:14 PM
Well, I'm putting a 7" screen in place of the stock cd player, so I'm going to need to move my new one someplace. I really dont wanna relocate my HVAC so I was thinking of maybe getting rid of the two upper vents on the dash bezel. What are the steps to doing this? I'm pretty handy with fiberglass, so I could do that. I'm really just looking for a rough layout of what I need to do to get a cd player mounted in there. Anyone, anyone?

Woooo bubbies.

gotta hack on alot of stuff behind the dash, and it will be tight. the bezel it self wouldnt be hard, just getting the clearance behind. if i remember right, it would be cutting it really close.... pull the dash apart and take a look for your self

If your handy with glass, your options are limitless. Have you thought about building it into your center counsel. I agree with Z24baller, you might have clearance issues, plus you would lose your middle vents. At any rate, good luck man!

Well, help me brainstorm on this then. I'd like to keep the vents if possible...because it gets pretty here (especially with all the global warming). The perfect place for the screen is undoubtedly in place of the stock CD player. How would I go about molding it into my dad?

the front trey of the center counsel would be a great place to start. i saw your glass work on the other post. pretty good man. a while back someone had molded a g-tech into the front ,looked pretty sweet. as apposed to having a trey at the front of the center counsel, you would fab a box into the front to hold your deck. againg not sure if it would work, but hopefully that will get your mind going.

i did the same thing to my dash bezel... u have to cut the Ac ducts out i did it all the way until the upper vent then blocked it off..... other then that its just making the bezel stidy enough to hold the radio....

Hmm. I'd like to keep my vents if possible, so I'm going to go ahead and say that it's going to have to be the front console tray. I think that would be most convenient and a lot easier to do. I'll head out today and pick up the mat and some more hardener. I'll have the first group of photos up tomorrow, if all goes well tonight.

Hmm, that's one badass setup you have there Mr.Whitecavalier01...however, I really dont wanna have to FG my dash....so much work and time I dont have before I leave for college. I'm stuck on getting mine put in the console tray. Im gonna try to find a box to put the cd player in and then start working around it.

my boy tdid the same thing in his cav and used a buick regal dash kit its the same size as the top vents are and looks very good when done i believe the part number is Metra 99-2020. I am sure you could glas the kit in and paint it for a nice custom look.

I'm planning on doing the same thing with my screen. I am going to relocate my cd player down to the bottom of the center console tray.

I hate that ^

I always do stuff get near completion and then change my mind. Then I think about all the time I wasted. But on the other hand you do get some good practice.
