were is the easyest location/best location to install the sender for a water temp gauge on the 2.4!!!!!!! thanks
I just did this over the weekend, so pay close attention because I almost @!#$ up.
the one circled water is one location. You will need a 1/4" hex drive socket, and a 6-8" extension. The metal pipe you see right below is coming from the waterpump and really interfere's with the removal of the plug in the block. put the hex drive on the extension, place it into the plug, and use a hammer to make sure the hex seats itself into the plug. I stripped mine horribly and almost didn't get it out. You will get a 'facial' of coolant, unless you drain the coolant. I'd say at most a 1/4 litre of coolant comes out. The other location is to 'T' off the stock location, which is on the drivers side of the engine, coming off the head, on the coolant line. But if you 'T' on the coolant line, you'll get a little pocket of coolant, and never really get an accurate reading. My advice is to install it on the back of the block, just be sure not to strip it. Jack the car up on axle stands, and its easily accessible...any other questions just ask...
sorry to bring this back from the dead but is there anyway to bring the picture back. or could someone else show me a pic of where this is exactly

boost will be soon for me....
picture is back, just had to upload it again...The original picture is from a JBO members car domain, so I take no credit for it, I added the circles and wording to point out exactly what is what...
wow, now I AM really bringin this post back alive lol. one question, so if i use the sending unit with the port that he has circled, will i have to drain any coolant? or would i just have to drain the coolant if i used the "T" on the coolant line? i'm somewhat engine and engine accessories inclined so if i get a "facial" of coolant, i'll be stuck and wandering jus bout takin it to someone who knows what they're doing
I think once you take the plug out, yes some coolant will come out, but have the aftermarket sending plug ready to put in as soon as you take the stock plug out.. Thats how I plan on doing mine when I drop my tranny this week(damn auto tranny is in the way lol)

your transmission is restricting you from doing this?

Well yes, but im not taking my tranny out JUST to do this but its gonna make it alot easier so I can get to it from underneath the car.. Looking up in the bay with the auto tranny in the car, the case blocks the whole back side of the block.

Does anybody know if you can just tap the wire for the temp sensor on the side of the head to get a reading?
Btw, that freeze plug thats circled up there is NOT 1/4 hex, I tried today to use one and its too small..
