Here
It's my friends cut about 1 1/4- 1 1/2 inches down. Not best pics.
is there any special way to do it? Nothing i have to watch out for or something that I cut and my car won't shift?

We marked it off, used a pipe cutter. The piper cutter will push the metal in, so your better off using a dremel with a cut off wheel. then cut the yellow rod leaving the same amount of space sticking out as before.
kewl thanks man

maybe i will just let it alone. I don;t want to mess it up

If you're planning on keeping the stock knob, you're in for more work than you think.
Take the knob off, flip it upside down and look into the hole where the shaft should go
(pure thoughts here people! keep it clean).
You'll notice that there is 2 notch-like protrusions inside the knob's hole. These protrusions will line up with the grooves in the actual stick itself. Once you've taken 2 inches off of the stick, you'll no longer have those grooves to work with.
This means that the knob itself will not descend as low as you would like it to because the inner protrusions prevent it from going any further.
The solutions:
a) Carefully drill out the inner protrusions
b) Somehow cut fine grooves into the stick without compromising it's structural integrity.
c) Get an aftermarket shift knob.
I opted for the latter and am quite pleased with the results.
I had initially had my mind set on keeping the stock knob and dying it to match the accent colour in my interior. The whole notch / groove thing forced me to reconsider that plan.
I have to disagree with the idea of cutting the stick with a dremel. You're gonna spray metal shavings all over the place (wear safety glasses) & the confined quarters will make it difficult to cut with the precision required for a good clean cut.
Go pickup a $5 pipe cutter from your local hardware store. One of those small dial-operated units will suffice. You'll still get metal shavings, but they won't fly all over the place. Plus, using the pipe cutter is much slower and allows you more time to assess the progess of your cutting.
You'd hate to be flying along with the dremel and suddenly cut too deep & into the yellow plastic. At 5,000 rpm it can happen in the blink of an eye.

i have an aftermarket shift knob but would just like to see it a little closer to the ground, like a short shifter for a manuel tranny.

hey Kreepy can you snap a picture with the after-market knob ?
I know you quit listing your stuff, can't blame ya on that one, so if you want to e-mail it thats cool too, I have been trying to decide if I really want to do this or not. i wanted to keep my stock knob too, but as of late I'm considering a transmission swap altogether to a manual. ( would you believe to save on gas, lol )
TIA
I can take pics but can't transfer them from to my PC because my dog chewed up the USB cable that came with the camera.
Maybe I'll pickup a new cable tomorrow after work.

I lost mine, so I just got a card reader instead since it works with my PDA and camera.
^^ That looks sweet Jason!
Goes great with the colour scheme.

sndsgood, could you walk me thru doing my shift knob like yours? I LOVE that "fake stick" look!! I looks like the auto shifters in like a Intrepid or something... I want to do that to my cav & I'd appreciate it if you'd give me some assistance with doing mine...
check gauge then i think they got just about every angle of the car lol.
steven, i basicallly just marked the shift rod about an inch or two lower, took a dremel with cut off wheel and carefully cut around the rod, making sure to not cut the yellow plastic piece going thru the center of it. once the rod was cut, i just marked the yellow stick the exact same amount and trimmed it down. then i just took some black vinyl and sewed up a shift boot for it and stuck the momo knob on.

Thanks. I'm going to give it a try. Not to jock your style or anything but I'm going to use the MOMO shift knob too. How did you mount the shift boot? I guess you can pull up the ring around the gear shift & tuck it in there huh?
yeah its just tucked in, that ring is pretty tight on there, very tight actually. took me a couple tries with the boot itself. but it takes a hole 20 minutes to make them so not a huge deal. and its not something i started its been done for years. and i love the momo shift knob, its about the only knob for automatics that i like, ive got the silver one as well.
