Cluster Needles?

Can you remove the needles on a 97 Cluster? I'm trying to put a white face gauge on, and i got the needle for the tach on as well as the button for the trip meter, but now i can't get the speedometer needle, fuel or temp needle. It looks like i might have to take those off? Is it safe to do that and how do you take them out?

for the love of god dont take the needles off....

i just did this 2 nights ago and F*cked up my speedometer.

just leave them on and slide your gauge cover around them somehow.

believe me, dont take them off, just take your time and go easy on the cluster.

since its a 97 cluster, yes you can remove the needles. when i put an overlay on my cluster (97), i just removed the needles with a fork, installed the overlay, and then put the needles back where they had been. i had the adjust the speedo needle a little bit but that was it. everything worked perfectly after that.

alias, where were your needles at when you took them off? I got mine shipped, so they sort of moved during shipping. Did you move them in a different location, or just where they were when u got it?

the needles were in random positions when i got the cluster. the temp and fuel gauge were in the middle somewhere, the tach was at 0 and the speedometer was at 60. i removed the needles, installed the overlay, and then put the needles back where they were. after that i installed the cluster and started the car. since i had a full tank of gas, i adjusted the fuel gauge needle so that i showed that i had a full tank of gas, i just removed the needle and respositioned it. for the temp gauge, i repositioned that to show what my previous cluster had shown when the car had been running. for the tach, i searched the jbo and found out what my car should be idling at (just a rough estimate), so then i removed and repositioned that one. the speedo was the fun one. i had my mom get in her car and i followed her around and she called out her speeds over the radio. i eventually got that needle all set and then i put the rest of the cluster together and called it a day. hope that helps

you can take them off but you dont need to. just turn all the needles so their straight up, then slip the gagues over. turn the speedo needle back down and then just start the car, the needles will adjust themself

I pulled mine off in my 96 when I installed my gauge face as well. I just made a mental note of where they were when I pulled them off and put it back in the same position again. The only adjustment my dad and I had to do was with the tach as it was off around 200rpm.

Fairly safe as long as you do it properly and dont rush through it.
