I was in a buddy's newer suburban. And his rear view mirror had a digital read out of the direction of travel and the outside temp. intigrated right into the glass of the mirror off to the one side. Does anybody know if I could get one and install it in my 04 cav.? If so where could I get one. Maybe a junk yard. Oh yea one more question. Would it be hard to install?
Yeah, check the junkyards, a lot of higher-end GM models have them, Chrysler/Dodge models have them also, and they make work in your car too. I don't see why not, they all have the same type of connector, and they look the same. The compass is built in, so there is nothing to wire for that, but the temperature read-out has a probe that comes with the mirror (if bought new) and if you get it out of a junk car, you'll need to get the temperature probe, which would be attached to a wire coming out of the mirror. Follow the wire until it ends, and that's your probe. As far as attaching the mirror, that's n/p. All mirrors are the same in that aspect. Shouldn't be hard to install, u may have to remove your headliner. You can buy them new (I've seen them on eBay) or from GenTex (who manufactures them for GM, Chrysler Group, and Ford) and they ain't cheap. Expect to pay at least $230 retail for a new one. Best bet is to check a junk yard. They don't easily break and they def. won't charge you $230. Good luck
Also look on Ebay. If you do a search under Chevy S-10 mirror, it should bring up The Blazers as well, and these mirrors are about same size as ours. I have though about doing this as well, so keep us informed of how this project is going for you. Thanks!
SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool idea...
I was just thinking how the temp sensor can be used to read virtually anything you want!
I know it's JUST a Cavalier, and I'm sorry if I hurt your ego.
