I was looking around my dash to find a place where i can hide my stock radio because ive got one of those T-harnesses and i don't want to drag it all the way to the trunk. I have found 3 possible areas where i can store it:
-in the glove box
-empty area directly to the right of the blower motor, theres alot of room there for the extra cable and the stock deck
-I have reached up past the area of #2 and i have found a significant amount of space above the glove box, Its just below the airbag but the airbag rests on the dash itself, i'm talking about the space in between. I'll try to get a pic of it, but if you look at top inside the glovebox its that piece except on the other side. How do I get to that area?I know there are some HVAC tubes going there too. Would this be a good place to put the deck or is it too close to the airbag?
why do you need to hide your stock radio?
cus he likes the annoying door chimes
yes (meh I feel embarrased) but I don't want to leave my headlights on and drain the battery. I just feel worried that without the chimes i could forget. I want to hide the stock radio because i don't to see it anywhere, either the trunk, or under the seat. I wouldn't mind having it in the glovebox but that takes up room. I paid 40$ for the harness so i might as well use it, its the bestkit one so it has relays that use the stock speaker to emit the sound.
Tweeter hid mine somewhere, I cant find it anywhere. Its not in the trunk (that I can see). So I dunno, maybe go ask your local tweeter where they run it. You COULD how ever mount the stock radio up under the wheel, way way way up in there. Theres a good bit a room up there.
Hmmm I have an aftermarket radio and if I leave my lights on it still makes that annoying sound.

Some newer decks allow it, my Pioneer deh-p4700mp does.
Must have been that way four years ago then cause thats how old my deck is.
But my in-dash is a Pioneer as well so that may be why.

Scotty B, I don't know what tweeter is , we don't have them stores in Canada. But if you check by the HVAC panel you might be able to see the thick wire going to the stock deck.
I'm gonna take a look at the steering wheel place sounds like a good spot also.
I bought a harness from radio shack that makes it where I dont' have to have the stock radio in the car. My radio is in Kansas somewhere.
Just spend the extra $40 for the harness and then you can make $30 of that back by selling your radio.

thats cuz you have a 95-99 cav
Jacob B: what's above the glove box? Answer is your passenger air bag. I know because I removed mine to mold a monitor there
Today I hooked up an amp to my door and rear speakers. At first I wanted to put the amp under the passenger seat but it wouldn't fit, so I disided to try to put it under my monitor. I had to do a little cutting to get the amp to fit in the space were the airbag was.
YES, you could put the stock radio there, if you want to remove the passenger air bag. My guess would be that you wont...it's up to you

yes i know the airbag is there, but to me it doesn't feel like there is anything there, I guess i'm wrong, ok i see it now i found a pic. I think i'm gonna back out of my original #3 idea since i don't want to mess around with the airbag.
So i'm down to this:
1)glove box
2)to the right of the blower motor
3) and Scotty B's idea but i need more clarification, I checked above the steering wheel there is no room in there.
Throw that radio out....
You can buy a small headlight reminder chime from walmart...
