Looks really good! I should definately do that this summer. Did you just use fabric spray paint?

Yes....... I know that's not a lizard.

yep, just fabric spray paint, used about 4 1/2 cans of it (payed 5.99 a can at canadian tire), took alot to keep the tan from bleeding through. Also picked up new plugs to hold it up, instead of painting the orginals black, only a couple bucks and looks alot better. Normally the stuff wears easily, but i figure on the headliner its not going to get much contact and also no sunlight to fade it

I just put in a black carpet on the weekend. I think id really like to do this.

But,.....How did u get out the headliner ? Did u have to bend it ? cuz id figure itd leave a crease.

Wonder whatll be different with a sunroof...

dont have to bend it at all, just remove the plugs, and take down the visors (need small torx screwdrivers) then i removed the side panels in back and then just angle it and pull it out the door. sunroof doesnt change anything except for pullling off the rubber seal around the moon roof.

i heard u gotta remove the A-Pillars...if so, howd u do that ? i tried pullin up them the other day while i was drivin...

I cant wait to do it this weekend, prolly changes the feel of the interior alot. Does it make it feel smaller inside the car ?

ok first, you do need to remove the a-pillar covers, they just pull off, you dont have to remove the rear side panels, i just removed the hangers, then pulled them out a little just to give some room, then pulled the headliner forward towards the windshield, then it just goes out the passenger door.
Second, the visors, i spray dyed them aswell, the elastic on the drivers one is a pain, had to do it again the next day after letting it fully cure, then i stretched out the elastic and did underneath it.
As for making the interior feel smaller, not that i've noticed

They made them tan to give the illusion of more interior space.

Did you know - the Cavalier interior is actually roomier than the car that replaced it?

Actually, If you preped it right, you would only need 2 cans, And it doesnt wear badly at all if you scotch gaurd it after.

for the sunroof. open the sunroof and slide it back about half way, get out of the car and look thru the opening, on each corner of the sunroof cover there it a tab, pull the tab back and u lift the cover up tru the top.

I guess I was lucky ... I didn't have to mess with re-wrapping or dying mine...

I was at the junk yard one day and I happened to find '95-'99 Cavalier that had a sunroof with the graphite headliner. I swear I crapped my pants when I saw it . That damn tan headliner has annoyed the hell out of me since I bought the car. Anyway, I proceeded to remove it and buy it. It was about $25 for everything including the visors, plugs, sunroof slider, sunroof trim and of course the headliner.

As far as removing the sunroof slider, I found it easiest to just remove the sunroof itself and then pull the slider up through the top of the car. There are 4 torx screws holding the glass in (one in each corner). When you re-install the slider make sure you put the little tabs back on the tracks or the slider won't open and close right.

It definitely makes a huge difference in the interior... it's amazing how good it looks when everything in the interior matches ! I recently found a Sedan with the graphite headliner in it. I will be getting it and installing it in my mom's car because her tan headliner drives me nuts as well.

actually the sun roof piece will come out very easy

there is 4 little snaps that hold it in , you push them towards the center , and pop it up and slide it out to the back and over the roof , with the sunroof in the vent position

Looks great.. makes me wanna do mine next week while I'm off.

I've got a few questions though.

Someone mentioned 'properly prepping' the headliner so you only use two cans. What do you need to do to prep it?

I know you don't NEED to remove the rear panels.. but what is involved in removing them (I'd like to paint them too while Im taking everything apart)?

I did the same thing... went and got a graphite headliner from the wreckers... $20 (Canadian.. what's that... $15 US?) Much faster than dyeing it.. especially the vis

I think there were graphite headliners up to 1998? Then they were all tan after that.... we had this discussion years ago.. I can't remember now.
