Has anyone else had this issue in their cars? How difficult and expensive would it be to replace this piece? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
if its the piece closest to the window its all one piece. that is one large piece that holds the air bag, cluster, vents, radio, glove box, h-vac contols. (if its the piece that cracked like mine closest to the windshield)
It is a common problem on Js. You can get an overlay "cover" for it or swap out the whole dash to a non broken one.

damn man whats up with our cars that causes that? @!#$ my current 03 cav has that crack and my 02 ls cav i had a few years back had the same crack as well?? is there anyway to fix it without having to replace that whole dash peice?

Cover it up, if you replace it it'll just happen again. I live in AZ, so it's even worse here...I actually have 2 cracks.
Guess I am either bustin' out the duct tape or leaving it as is...my friend's 01 Cav has the same thing. Mine is an 02.
here is why that happens in simple terms:
GM USED P.O.S CRAPPY A$$ CHEAP PLASTIC ON THE WHOLE INTERIOR AND IT BLOWS.
yes mine has it too...worse than that im affraid, much much worse.
that happened to my friends 00 z24 he never fixed it...then again he trashed that poor z

i got mine from coverlay and just use sem graphite vinyl paint and it matches perfect with the stock parts
RK Sport makes one thats nice... im thinking about it...trying to find some pics of it though

either get the overlay, or go to a junk yard and replace the dash piece... just take your time when putting it back together... so it doesnt creak and groan on every bump lol
