headliner

are the headliners from sunfires the same size as cavi's? is there a sunfire that has a black headliner? i want my cavi's headliner to be black, but i really didn't want to dye it...don't wanna worry about dye rubbing off and whatnot...and can i get the rubber that goes around the headliner where the sunroof is in black?...or dark gray?

I just dyed mine with the vinly and fabric paint. Honestly, you'd be VERY surprized at how it turns out....very nice. Lots cheaper than trying to find a charcoal liner.

does it rub off easily? you may make me change my mind, lol. do you think i could dye the rubber that borders the sunroof also?

I havn't yet dyed the rubber yet, but I did hit the plastic "buttons" that hold the roof with the dye/paint and it worked great. No rubbing off or anything...nothing. I was like you...I was ready to put $200.00 at getting a charcoal headliner but I said screw it...and I decided to try $15.00 worth of dye first honestly just so I could talk crap about how terrible it was. Was I wrong.

awesome! what brand did you go with?

I went with Dupli-Color "Vinyl and Fabric" paint. I went with black...its very hard to get a grey shade with it so I went full black......but it looks nice. Blends very well with the interior of the car. Just gotta figure out what to do with the rubber surround...I will try to hit it later and see what happens. The worst I have to do is find a charcoal one from somewhere.

My sunfire had a dark grey/graphite headliner to begin with. My cavalier I swapped in a Graphite one from a Z24.

I also died mine with the vinyl and frabic paint. took about 4 cans to get a good dark even shade of black and now i am glad i did it. The headliner doesnt really see much wear so i dont think it would be rubbing off.

^I used 2 cans...looks great. I rubbed it pretty good where the visors fold up and nothing came off 2 days after I sprayed it on there....nothing.

sounds awesome, guys! you just saved me from spending like 300 bucks, haha.

I pulled my graphite headliner with all the trim for the sunroof and everything from an older z24(95-99) I believe.
the newer ones are all tan.

I didn't pay very much for it either, something like 20 or 30 bucks.

I even got the visors.

that would be the best way to do it.

my 2 cents

the pictures make the material look alot lighter than they actually are, but they do match everything in the car and look very nice.

good luck

hmmm...might do that, if i can find one around here for that cheap...otherwise, i'll be dying! i really did want a dark black colored headliner...i'm also gonna be sanding down my dash and painting it flat black..hopefully it'll look nice...

I got a spare set of charcoal visors....I dyed mine to match the headliner....looks great. I like black better than the charcoal anyway. I havn't yet tried to spray the dye on the plactic mirror cover yet but I will try it and see. Worst case scenario is light sand, plastic prime and paint with actual plastic flat black.

You are correct.

Graphite headliners were only available on 1995 - 1997 Js.

i don't think anyone ever answered the original question here and i'm curious as to the answer.

i'd like to put in a darker headliner and i found some in a junkyard today that were in pretty decent condition, (mines all tan).

are the sunfire and cavalier one's interchangeable? sure looked like it was, also does it matter between sedan and coupe?

sedan versus coupe would be a diffrence, but cav to sunfire i think your safe. and hell if its charcoal and doesnt fit im sure you could sell it quite easily. i just wrapped mine myself. the dye will work on headliners, and shouldn't wear off. its not an area you really touch at all so you shouldnt have any worries about that.

yeah i was thinking about the dye, but i like that charcoal color so i think i'd rather just swap the whole thing.

A sunfire headliner will fit a cavy. I'm sure a difference between 4 door and 2 door, but 2 door to 2 door will fit.

Truth, I have a 97 Charcoal sunfire one in my car, so it will work. Also, 03-05 they changed the A pillars and the rear interior panels. You'll need 95-02 ones for it to work.

Yes but will still work. I have a 05 headliner in my 01 Z24. Drivers pillar is orginal 01, passenger one 03. I did swap the rear panels as well.

If you can find a Sunfire headliner from 95-96 it should have a Oh @!#$ handle on the passenger side.

My mistake, mine is from 96....as I have the handle. And ya, the pillars will work, will just leave gaps at the tops from my experience.

I was thinking about wrapping mine since I cant find a charcoal headliner anywhere around here.

What kinda fabric did you use?
