I'm buying a kicker l7 soon and I am fiber glassing a box for it. I want to stretch carpet over the box but I don't think I would be able to do it. The way the box is drawn up so far is nothing extravagant, but I have worked with the carpeting before and it seems impossible to stretch, though I have seen some crazy shaped boxes covered in carpet. What's the trick?
what's the shape of the box, and what type of "carpet"?
"You cannot make a poor man wealthy by making a wealthy man poor"
"The inmates are running the Asylum"
I can't define the shape. Its going on the left side and the back molds right up next to the wheel well. I don't know what that type of box is called. But it has a name. Standard gray sub felt.
its almost like a hidden box then? just get extra carpet and slit the carpet every time your going around a corner or a curve. it will take some practice to get it to look right.
isnt the whole point of a fiberglass box to not use carpet though?
^^ Glad I read before I posted.
I thought all sub carpet had the backing. Cool I'll just order some of that carpet then. Thanks.
I know this is the wrong thread to ask this but since I already have this thread made..
I saw a box that had pvc from the box through the board in the back by the 6x9 mounting and into the cabin, so it took air from inside the cabin.
What was the reason for this? Is it worth doing?
And how do I get cleaner bass with the sub that I have. It is a 12'' JL. I don't care that much about how loud it is, I just want it to hit beats crisp, hard and clean. How should I design this box for that.. Smaller, larger, vented into the cabin, or completely sealed. Thanks guys.
Depends on what JL sub you have, build a box to the specs for THAT sub, you can manipulate it to an extent, but much more or much less will leave you in the same boat your in...wanting it to sound better.
Make sure to use LOTS AND LOTS of spray on adhesive when you are stretching carpet. Rule of thumb is to use ample amount of adhesive on the box and let it sit for a few minutes in order to get tacky. DO THE SAME WITH THE CARPET (NON-BACKED AUTOMOTIVE GRADE). Once both are tacky, start in the MIDDLE of the box and work outwards. Pull and then press down. Mind you....once it is down....it will be down for good!
