I order a set of white face gauges for my 96 cav
i install them ,no problem at all
went to start the car and nothing,to me sounded like the fuel pump due to teh fact my dads 03 cav did the same
but after a few times,i could hear the fuel pump
then one guy i chat to says its my thrift system thats making it not start
it starts for like 2 secs and dies right out
did anyone else have this problem or know what i should do,thx

it sounds like its the anti theft...try the relearn steps..
I could be wrong but I think its switch your car to the point just before starting it and leave it sit for 15-20 minutes..
if its not that I have no clue.
i tried that already
in the on postion,everything off,window open,door closed.
waited like 10-15 mins
turned off,waited 10 secs.then turn on,same thing
runs for like 2 secs and shuts off
didnt open the door or anything/did it like 5 times, same thing every time
i hear the fuel pump running after car shuts off

turn the car on let it die
leave key in on position
wait
try again
i think i did that also.not sure
i am gonna recheck the wires again, once its get a lil warmer
to cold out right now'
is there any other way i could reset the comp top make it unarm itself or anything,
when i did my geo storm, and my brother ford probe, never had this problem

double check that everything is connected.
It is the passlock feature that is killing the fuel pump after a few seconds of run-time.
However...
The passlock relearn process differs between 96-99 and 00-05 Js
After reading the process that you went through it sounds like you did the passlock relearn for the 00+ cars.
For a 96-99 you need to turn the car into the on position and not start the car, just let it sit there. The theft light should start blinking and remain on for 10-20 minutes. Eventually it will shut off,
then you are suppose to turn the car over and let it run, not turn it back off. The car should remain running as now the code has been reprogrammed between the new cluster and car computer.
The 00+ process consists of turning it on and off like 4 times.
a little clearer instructions is in the FAQ thread on the passlock issue:

thx,
well i went out redid it,nothing, then i looked at my gauges again.i guess when i tooked the black clip off,it broke the mother board, even though i was carefully of removing them, but oh well.half of it is still stucked in the clip,so friday when i get money, hopefully the junk yard will have one, then hope all i will have to do is remove the mother board and takes mines off,or find an cluster with about 70k miles on it,since thats what the engine got on it,,,,
but oh well.didnt know it was gonna be this much of an pain,3rd car i did white fgace gauge on and this one has giving me the most trouble
so when i get that,i will have to go though the thrift system and hopefully it will work
thx for all the help

Mine did the same thing to me...passlock activated...took me about 3 days to figure it out. 3 garages later i got my car back after I fixed it myself...no garages had a clue
it runs again
i got one from an 98 cav
i switched the mother boards.
started it up,went dead,waited the 10 m ins,fired right up,it runs
then i restarted it 4 times to be sure,
cant ebelive that much trouyble to change over to white face gauges

I had this problem with mine. The previous owner and i did a cavalier/sunfire dash swap and in the middle of it broke the chip and the anti- theft wouldnt let it turn on, we spliced a sunfire harness in and sunfire gauges, waited the 10-15 minutes and it finally started. What really sucked is it was stuck in my driveway blocking my garage for like 2 weeks while we ordered the parts... and he was stuck without a car. BE CAREFUL! We learn from these things lol
yea i know.didnt know it stucked up that far
when i went to the junkyard,i tooked the clip also cause mines still had stuff in it,so i put an male and female connector on it,so now i dont gotta worry about removing the clip you know
