Interest 17 or 18 inch LS Sport replicas (GP)
Saturday, August 16, 2008 2:31 PM
This is an interest post for a possible GP on replicas of LS Sport rims in 17x7, or 18x7.5.
I relise that this is an ambitious project, but I've done all the leg work, and found that it's not as crazy as I thought it might be when I started out on it.

I have begun to work with a company who will produce them, but I need to order 25 sets minimum of the same exact rim.

What I would like to know, is that if I were to run a GP on these, who will actually be interested, and go through with it, and for what sizes?
If this is successful, I'll consider adding other sizes, and/or styles (like 95-99 Z rims?), but I'm going to start off with one size, one style.

They will be exact replicas of the factory LS Sport rims, with the machine face and painted accents, unless everyone starts wanting chrome or something, which I have not yet priced out. They will have slightly lower offsets than factory, so they will fill your wheel openings a little more, but nothing drastic. I am also going to check out all the big brake kits, so I can make sure these will clear them all.

The initial pricing that I'm figuring, which I don't expect to change unless the freight gets out of hand, is about $700 per set.
I relise that this is not cheap, but this is not a product already available, and the price will decrease quite a bit if enough people are going to do it, but I won't bother with the price list unless this gets the interest to hit higher numbers. (Quick lesson in manufacturing: I have to divide the cost of the mold - very expensive - by the number of sets ordered)

Also worthy of noting, is that the turn around time on these will be approximately 60-90 days.
The reason is that unless I can get enough people to commit (meaning cough up the dough ), I'm not going to have the mold made.

So let's hear it...If you are seriously interested, please add your name to the list, and what size you would be interested in.
I will then be able to narrow it down to which I'll start with, or if the project is just going to crash and burn.

I seriously need a 14x7 or 14x8 and know of at least 4 other sets you'd have sold if that could get done.

I used to race cars, now I race myself.

Why 14"? Isn't the idea bigger is better?

I'm sure I can get it done, but the minimum would still have to be 25 sets.
I'm doubtful that many people on here are looking for small diameter rims.
The most common sizes are 17's and 18's.

I'm guessing to fit bigger slicks for a better hook up when dragging.

Go for it. Picturing them on a car might get more interest.
Also, here's a preliminary rendering of an 18" wheel. There are a few minor changes to be made, but you get the idea.

OK, well if people are interested in one of the other styles, maybe I'll start with one of them instead.
I'm also considering making them in the 5x115 for the NFW/IRS guys (with the correct bore), but I'm not sure if that will generate enough interest. If anyone is interested in the alternate bolt pattern, add to the list. I'm going to let this post run for a while, to see if we get a good list going. If it gets going, I'll start the GP as soon as we have a consensus on at least 20 people who are interested in the same design/size, etc.

So as of right now, am I correct?

1. z yaaaa..............95-99 Z24 Rims.....17 or 18
2. AZ24Ncav ............any style...............18

I wish someone could bring back the Axis Touring cups too! These wheels are going to look great,
and I wonder what kinda weight these are going to be in. I would have to get them in Chrome.

For a set of 00-02 z wheels or '03+ -- 17 or 18 I dont care. Id like a set, but would need a time frame to have the money and everything. GREAT idea!

I'm guessing you'll have a good amount of time to get the money together. I won't start taking paid orders unless the GP actually runs.
Lil Rios Z24 wrote:When would the purchase be done i would like some 18" ls sport

I can't give you a date right now, but if there is enough interest, the wheels will arrive approximately 60-90 days from the time the GP closes. Keep in mind it will all depend on commitments (paid orders). If I don't get enough orders, I will not even have the mold made. I'm hoping that this will get interest quickly, but we'll just have to see what happens.

Remember people, this is just an interest thread. If you will definitely buy them if/when the GP runs, please copy the list and add your name, style you'd want, and size. If it looks like enough people will actually commit, I'll run the GP. Keep in mind that I will run the GP based on the most popular, and if it's successful, I'll try it again with another style.

[quote=BoltZ DesignZ™]how about the cobalt ss/tc rims in a 5x100?

Yes Please! Also I thought that for 18" having the stock lip would take away from them. These fix that fact, and I never put weights on the outside ever!

OK, so it sounds like the new style Cobalt rims would be the more popular? I guess we'll add that to the mix. Again, the first design offered will be whatever gets the most interest. Would you guys want these in the black, or a silver, or what? I will double check, but I believe the order will all have to be the same color.

Another issue with these is finding a wheel to copy. I have an LS Sport rim, as they are easy to come by. The new Cobalt rims will not be.

I would be interested in a set of 17 or 18 ls sports.
Any idea on how much shipping would cost for these? would local pick be available?

Typical shipping on a set of rims seems to be about $75-100, depending on where they are going.

Local pickup would definitely be available, again, depending on where you are.
