Which wheels are better...and cheaper?
Friday, February 08, 2008 3:07 PM
I have a 1997 Cavy and I want some new wheels to put on it, my car is a base model 97' 2.2 4-door I was thinking either 03' Z24 wheels,

or like 03' PT Cruiser wheels (Chrome 5 spoke),

or some SRT-4 rims

Yeah If I get them they're going to be chrome, I also like the 98-I think 01 or 02 Z rims too, they're only powder coated grey, I'd probably make them black if I got those.

Depending on which PT cruiser wheels, you may have to have the hub opening machined, because some of them have a taper to them, and will not fit on our hub correctly, so that will make them more expensive. I don't know about the thin spoke ones, but I know for a fact that the 5-spoke with the wide spokes require this, as I had a set on my car before, and had to do this modification. Even though the hub is the same, the PT Cruiser either uses a tapered mount, or it doesn't stick out as much as ours, But the hole is tapered from the factory.

If you want cheap, stick with the J-body rims, because you obviously won't have that problem.

Yeah maybe that's why I haven't seen too many cavys with those rims, and yes I'm talking about the wide spoked rims, but I also had a friend with a 2003 Neon with PT rims on it and neon rims fit right on a cavy (as far as I know), so would that make a difference or no?

I think SRT 4 rims fit also

You can also polish the 95-99 Z rims and 00-02 Z rims

So many options

You can also get a set of 17s used on here for real cheap

All depends what your tastes are

Yeah BTW (this is the guy who origonally asked the question) I just forgot my password, but anyway, I like the "stock but different" look I would love a set of SRT4 rims, but all the junkyards around me don't have any...I live in the country so there's always parts for F-150's and crap.

I'm basically just looking for the biggest bang for my buck

Not necessarily. The three vehicles have the same hub bore, but the one on the PT Cruiser is either shorter, or tapered than the J-body.
I'd bet that if the PT rims fit right on a Neon that they are just like the PT hub.

Ok gotcha, so basically I'm just narrowed down to Z24 rims, I'm not too upset about that though, those are easier to find and probably less expensive.
