steel wheels getting really hot.

so i put my winter rims and tires on today. of course i have to road test the car to make sure everything is good. well first time around the block the car squeals like mad, and it feels like the wheels are locking up(like a cars without ABS when you hammer the brakes)

that went away after a few minutes, so i drove around the back roads for a bit, maybe 2KM at most. everyday driving nothing hard. well i get home and i thought i could smell that burnt brake smell (which i did). even worse the front wheels are really hot, stupid crazy hot.

im really lost on this one, there the same wheels and tires i ran last year. i did a front wheel bearing and front brakes about 6 weeks ago and everything has been fine there.

i don't want to drive it like this because im sure it will cause a huge problem.

any suggestions would be great, ill try anything, i really don't want to run my summer wheels in a Canadian winter.

take the wheel off, see if its shiny anywhere on the inside. look for signs of rubbing, excessively wearing brakes, etc...

if the rims are hot, there must be friction somewhere. i would assume your brakes might be locking up or something (seized caliper maybe, slider pins...).

there is no reason for the rim to get that hot unless your just over exagerating.

Check for a dragging caliper, I had this same problem just recently on my truck. Burning brake smell really bad and the alloy rim was really really hot. Jack the front end up and see how much resistance you encounter when spinning each front wheel. If one side is alot harder to turn then you found the problem. I replaced both calipers so there is equal braking strength on both sides and problem is gone. A collapsed brake line will also cause the caliper to not release.
