Hey guys....I searched the forums but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. When I took off my rims last Fall somehow the lug nut broke off with the stud still inside...I was just curious if there is anyway to remove the stud from the lug nut...or do I just need to by a new set of lugs....mine came with a key...any help here would be great...thx
is the stud stuck in the lug or is the lug nut still stuck on the car? either way you can drill it out.
the stud is stuck in the lug
drill it out. put the lug in a vice grip and just drill out the stud

The lug wouldn't be any good after that, unless he is really careful and it honestly would not be worth the effort, I would just get a new lug nut and replace the stud.

i agree, not worth the effort, just replace it and use anti-seize from now on
Don't use anti-seize on lug nuts!!
Just ensure you torque them properly. Get a torque wrench if you don't already have one.

Why shouldn't someone do this? I have always done this, and have never had any problems. Once the lug is loosened, it is nice and easy to take off. I am just curious as to why you say this. Thanks.
I used an arbor press to press the old stud out, and used the press to press the new one in. If there is enough stud to press out that is.
I also have used a hammer and a punch to get the studs out.

You can just use a hammer and wack the stud hard enough that it will pop out.
Anyways, anti-seize is GOOD thing to use on studs, ESPECIALLY if you have nice wheels on there and don't want to have to worry about drilling studs out...
