Snow tires droan
Tuesday, October 31, 2006 7:26 PM
I just got the snow tires put on my daily driver today and they droan or hum while driving, its kind-of pulsing to, but there is very little to no vibration. 50 mph and above its not to bad but between like 35 and 50 its pretty bad. When i first drove them, i got out and checked the air pressure and they were at about 40psi. I lowered them to about 33 - 34 psi (accounting for heat in the tires) and it is still doing it, but not as bad.

They were sitting in my workshop over the summer, it stays relativly cool in it during the summer. Also they were stored un-mounted on there sides and stacked. I plan on selling the car pretty soon and i would like to figure out how to fix it before i put it on the market. If not i may have to take a hit because of the noise.

btw, i do remember the same noise when they were brand new last year, but it was nowhere near as bad.

Thanks guys

snow tires usually have a deeper tread... ever driven by a jacked up 4x4? know the sound the tires make on that truck? kind of similar...

Yea, last year i remember a noise from them but not like this. Its much louder this year. The noise is kind-of like off-roading tires going down the road.

Well i am going to go to the Goodyear store today on my break and see what they have to say.

All winter tires make a LOT of noise... old tires make more noise than new tires... so it's just being amplified because of the age.

Well i went to the Goodyear store today and he pointed out that the tires were un-even and thats what was causing the noise. He said this happened from them being on the rear to long. They only have ~4,000 mile on them so i didn't think they needed to be rotated to often. But he told me about every 60 days they need to be rotated. So i just need to keep driving around to wear them down a little and the noise will go away.

Also i bought these tires because they were one of the quietist tires on the market, and they only have 1 winter on them so they are not all that old.
