question on these rims

kinda a dumb question and it gets asked from time to time, well, it's decent i guess but i didn't have anything else to do so here ya go.....
im going to be getting some bronze 5zigen fno1r-c for my 97 sunfire GT with that crazy aquamarine lookin color. what im trying to get an idea of is: even though they are lightweight, 17X7 at 15.5lbs and the 18X7.5 at 17lbs/ if i got 18's would this bring my gas milage down even though they are that lightweight? i understand that the wheel is larger so the car has a little more diameter to spin, but will this lightweight wheel still cause this? i ask mainly cause i want more go than show. If you go on the side frame and click memebers and look up Jack Brown (beansie53) he has these rims(just not bronze) on a BEAUTIFuL cavy. so yea, thats all.

ok before everyone starts asking because they are it all depends on what type of go as you stated your trying to achieve. whether it be drag strip, auto-cross etc. you answered your question to a degree when you said you know they weigh more more weight = more force to spin and rotate the wheel mass.

incorrect. if you get the right tire size then you wont have any extra overall diameter. depending on how heavy the wheel is, there may be extra wheel mass but thats all. you might notice a little bit of difference in gas milage but it isnt much

tyler__not REALLY into drag, but i do go to the strip now and then to practise. i am interested in my quarter times. i just want my car a little more funtional to what i can make it do. so, auto-cross really.

UMmm, nyquil guy(sorry im newer to a jbody and the org so i dont know your name yet)
i was under the impression that since the rim weighs more than the tire, and that if your going to make the rim larger it has to rotate that weight now that it sits farther away from the center. and thus, hurt performance and gas mileage. i know i'll be keepin the same overall tire size, but doesn't that extra weight being further out from the middle ( going from 16 to 18" here) hurt acceleration?
It makes sence and follows physics and all, if im wrong plz explain. i think you were just saying that if its going to weigh more than stock, and thats not the case here since stock 16s are like, 20lbs last time i searched..

no your right but what you said the first time about the bigger overal diameter is wrong. if you get the correct size tire the diameter will stay the same. the only extra force is weight of the wheels. if they weigh more than your going to have more wheel mass moving. like i said though, if they do weigh a little more, you will need more power to move them and it will kill gas milage but not enough to worry about it

imo i would go with 17's because it will give you the best of both worlds. Other people may argue or say 18's are the better route or even 16's. Everyone has there own opinion and experience with different sizes and may like them more than another. But overall 17's are a nice happy medium that can give you equal amounts of both handling and at the track. good luck with your search and if you need help finding rims at good prices just pm me and i can help ya out with that.

if your looking performance wise, 17s should be the biggest you go
