as it says above, which 5 spd is better. specifically behind a 3400.
I think you need an NVT550 to hook to the 3400. So Getreg. There should be a few experts weigh in though.

whats the diff between nvt550 and getreg?

any trans that bolts up to an ohv will bolt up to a v6.
okay, well which one is better then? from what ive seen...the getrag is the better one?
NVT5500 is the oldschool trans that was bolted to the HO quad4's it has a better range of gears for performance driving.
where can i find that one? what did it come in? cause i looked on ebay for it and theres not a one
its NVG-t550. it came on 92-94 HO quad4 (beretta GTZ, calais, acheiva, grand am also i think)
your best chance is on car-parts.com
I'm kind of an Isuzu for life guy.
But since you have automatic, if you're planning to do the swap then you should probably go with the Getrag. I think it shifts a bit better than the Isuzu honestly.
Or you could just stay automatic.
i find it amusing that SHOoff has nothing better to do but follow me around & be an unhelpful dick in even cross-forum. - Jon Mick
the nvg t550 is a getrag.........but i dont think it will fit the v6
aren't parts for the NVG t550 discontinued?

Why wouldn't it fit the V6? After all, back in the good ole' days you could get a V6 5spd out of the box.

yup. it sucks ass.
personally, i dont like the newer getrag's notchyness, but hate the fact the syncros blow out of the isusu in what seems like days.
i like isusu because you CAN built it up, 4.11 FDR, one piece syncros, different gearing options etc. and there were quaiffe diff's produced. personally, one with all of these parts would be my dream trans. but til then an nvg t550 is my choice.

One piece synchros will make an Isuzu come alive, I'm going on 6 months I think, and they are still working GREAT. Last year at this time, my 3 piece synchros were dieing, after only 6 months of use.
I like isuzus because I know them, and they can be great if you put about $400 into building them, but you have to build them or they don't last.
Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.
I've got 2 yrs and about 30,000 miles of hard driving on my current Isuzu and it hasn't given me any problems yet. It's stock.
Where do you buy build up parts for the Isuzu? The synocros and whatnot? Are they still producing the Quaife diffs?
97 Cavalier 2.2 5-speed, 88 Camaro IROC-Z 5.7 auto, 91 Firebird Formula 5.7 auto, 88 Conquest TSi 2.6T 5 speed, 93 Silverado ECSB 5.7 auto, 83 Mazda RX-7
just found a pretty bad ass source for into on the isusu....

I like the getrag, throw an lsd in it and it works pretty well for the abuse it takes.
Getrag IMO...diff is the only kinda weak point, everything else will take anything you can throw at it.
Diff isn't terrible tho, just have to treat it right and stay AWAY from wheel hop. The stock diff has been taking 6k launches at the drag strip on slicks in my buddies car for like 2 years....still going strong!
