I have a 89 Sunbird GT with an automatic and swapping in a Getrag 5 speed, I have all the parts to complete the swap, but wondering what to do about the neutral safety switch. Just run the switch inside the cab and leave it in the neutral position? I would like some advice on wiring up the reverse lights and if the speedo unit will function properly or how i can make it work. any advice would be appreciated.
You're speed sensor has 2 wires a purple and a yellow wire. I believe the the speed sensor wires are dark green with yellow and light blue. Wire the purple to the drk green w/yellow and the yellow to to the light blue. What is the 282 out of? Do you have the the pigtails to the 282? For the reverse there should be 2 wires LT green which goes to the reverse circuit and the other wire is a power wire. Not 100% but for the safety switch you can probably just use a switch from a manual Sunbird and wire from there. What sensors and or electronics are you using?

The transmission is from a 91 3.1L Sunbird gt, I do have the pigtails from the car but do not have but not the switch from the manual, the car was put in the crusher last week so it is too late now.
I will be using the sensors from the 282. if i just leave the neutral safety switch in the neutral position that should be ok i guess, the car will start without the the clutch depressed but i can live with that.
Where is the plugin for the reverse lights, is it the one that is on top the transmission and near the vent tube with two wires?
Yeah its right on top. It should be that plug towards the front of the trans. 2 wires.

Right on, that is what I suspected. I can't wait to get this car on the go, and now i should get better fuel mileage on the highway, unless I get too boost happy.
I wasn't aware that the 3.1 FWD bell housing pattern would work with the 2.0 block. Where do you plan to relocate the starter?
