Hello, I just dropped a new motor in my 03 Cavalier, got the motor from a 05.
I thought everything went without a problem...
After I had it running a few minutes, it started shifting like a drag car.
Automatic trans, 1st gear, if I let it shift at 2500RPM or so, it slams into 2nd and makes a thud (sometimes squealing the tires a bit).
2nd gear, again if I let it shift at 2800RPM it grabs hard into 3rd, not as hard as 1st to 2nd though.
Other gears are all pretty normal as there is less torque.
I thought right away, torque strut mount, upper motor mount, but I had a faulty IAT so CEL was on, i replaced the IAT.
So, I reset the computer, and for about 3 - 5 minutes it drives like it is brand new again, shifting perfect at any RPM even redlining it.
But after the 3 - 5 minutes it goes right back to grabbing gears like a rock crusher.
Has anyone encountered this problem before, if yes, please help me fix it...
This car isn't driven much, and my wife won't even think about driving/riding in it like this.
you know the sensor that connects to your intake tube? check that that is in, and check the wiring, it most likely got disconnected, which would make the transmission shift VERY hard. let me know how you make out!
check tps

8 psi with m62 and IAT under 100
my truck does this when trans fluid levels get low....

Get all the parts you need in a pile, and drive the car into it.
They will find their way into the correct places.
