This was passed onto me on another site for adjusting the shifter
Remove your center console.
Put the car in neutral and wiggle the shifter around. The transmission will go into dead neutral position on its own. NOTE-On the back of the shifter assembly is a u-clip which slides front to back and locks the shifter in dead neutral.
Disconnect the shift cables from the shifter assembly. Use a small flat head and be extremly careful not to break these as you can only buy them again while buying a whole new shifter assembly ~$140 from GM. There is a little lip which is its locking mechanism. You'll see what I mean when you get under your console. If you having a problem going into gear, its most likely the main connector. The side to side pivot should be fine.
Put the shifter in dead neutral and slide the u-clip pin into the shifter. This will lock it in dead center. Once that is done, slide the shift cable back into the locking clip so its snug and lock the clip back down.
Make sure the car goes into all gears smoothly. All of the white gripping portion of the cable will probably be buried into the locking clip. At least mine was when I did both short throw shifters.
If there is still a problem, your synchros inside the transmission are most likely shot. If you want to save some money, you can find ANY F23 getrag transmission and swap internals. Its maybe a 6 out of 10 wrenches to do.
If you need a new shift cables..J-body Getrag shift cables - GM P/N 22707146
is this the same for isuzu ?
No, only 00-05
and its funny my little write up is making it around from forum to forum.

how to do it on a isuzu trans
I've never had to deal with the Isuzu trans nor do I have access to one. Sorry.
how to do what? change the cables? theres a real easy way... go to your dealership to get the cables (only place to get the cables, by the way.), take apart your center console, pop the ends off the shifter. pull back your carpet on the passenger side floor pan, and you'll see how the cables are routed under a part for the heater. you can cut your old cables to get them out, i did. now, put the front of the car on jack stands, as high as you can. make sure to chock the rear wheels. no, using the handbrake is not the same as chocking. pop your hood, look at the top of your trans, you'll see the other ends, pop them off. you'll need a screwdriver to pop them off, and a long pair of needle nose pliers to get them out of the bracket.once they are, get under your car and pull on them. once they're out, get your new cables, pass the trans end up and lock them in place on the bracket. pass the shifter end through the hole on the floorboard, and pop the grommet in place. dont try to rout the cables back under the dash, its a pain in the ass. once the carpet's back in place, you cant even see they were there. the rest is common sense if you took them out.
if you're asking how to check you cables, look at the top of the trans. are the cables connected? if yes, then check on the shifter. connected there? if yes, look under the car for any twists or kinks (almost impossible, the cables are damn beefy) untwist/unkink them. if they're not connected, reconnect them. having difficulty shifting? lube your cable. still having trouble? check the trans fluid level. still having trouble? bleed your slave.
that should cover about 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of issues with the isuzu. if you STILL have questions, feel free to ask.

I dont think the Isuzu cables can be adjusted. Could be wrong though. Mine have never given me any problems.

sure can't.
so whats wrong with my car then since i changed the clutch. It is really stiff in neutral sometimes and i have a hard time going from 5th - 4th sometimes and rev the odd time...?????
Rich Grayo Jr. wrote:bleed your slave.
i hope that is it? i was thinking more fluid or shift cables?

i hope that is it thats odd though would be stiff in neutral? i was thinking more gear fluid or shift cables causing the problem?
when u bleen the isuzu trans does the key need to be at acc or off does it matteR?
? the slave has no electronic parts whatsoever... makes no difference where the key is at. check the master too, make sure its full. check you trans fluid.there's a little white dipstick on the back of the trans,
CLEAN THE AREA WELL BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE DIPSTICK, LAST THING YOU NEED IS TO DROP DIRT IN THE TRANS. pull the stick, check the level. if its low, refill it with synchromesh ONLY. if you dont know when the last time it was changed, change it.

i guess i remember someone was saying that to bleed the master turn the key to acc and pump the pedal???
The trans fluid has 2 bottles in it, i guess thats capacity? was obviously had to be changed when the clutch was..
As for the bleeding whats the best way to bleed the slave and will it really make a diff for the stiff feeling in neutral hmm??
transmission fluid didnt HAVE to be changed when the clutch was changed. did you do the work yourself? did you see it being drained and refilled with synchromesh? there really is no correlation between changing the clutch and the trans fluid. now the CLUTCH fluid on the other had, should have been flushed.
as for a stiff in neutral feeling, is it just side to side motion thats stiff? or when actually selecting a gear? either way, lube your shift cables. the ends inside the car, remove them and use some white lithium grease to lube them.
really, what needs to be done is just a little bit of diagnosis on your end. start looking at things. look for wear marks, look for looseness, look for broken plastic bits, look for ANYTHING that just doesnt look right.

where am i looking, how can i get access to the cables?
A friend did the clutch and slave the tranny was dropped. i Provided him with 2 syncromesh bottles.
The side to side motion feels stiff, then when i force it side to side many many times it finally frees up,
but going into gear is ok....
When driving sometimes i get the same feeling when i got from 5 to 4 hard to get out and find 4, i have to
free it up side to side motion first then goto 4...
something's binding. sounds like he twisted the cables good. follow the drections i posted and look for the cables to be twisted in the engine bay.
