Okay for awhile now i've been planning to do the auto to man transmission swap but for now still doin reserch!! I was wonderin what 5 speed should i put in my car i have a 96 cavalier with the 97 model 2.2L in it i just need to know what trans to put in the car?? Help Highly appreciated!!!

96 trans and 97 trans are the same trans. BUT, since you have to cut and weld anyway, get a trans from an 00-02 ohv car. supposedly, getrag > isuzu.

In stock form, yes. However, if you put the diff and synchro from an actual Isuzu tranny (from a Stylus, Impulse, Geo Storm, etc.), the Isuzu is better.

the isuzu should be easier to get ahold of and more cost effective it all depends on how much power you have im doing the swap right now and ive been looking for 2 weeks and i just got a trans 2 days ago but i needed the getrag

okay well im just pushing stock motor for now but i plan on turbo soon after i get the tranny and all so which do you perfer?? and how much did you spend on yours?

Every once in a while I see a company put up brand new MK7's (Isuzu) for like $350. They're not always up, so you have to watch it. If you go to a decent yard, you can probably get one for $200 or less. Just do yourself a favor and inspect the mechanism where the cables hook up. If the car has been shifted hard, you will see some mashing of the components that the cables move. This is not a cheap fix, and it will cause your shifting to be sloppy.
