Problem Removing Transmission Mount

What it do : ) I am trying to separate the tranny mount from the tranny mount bracket on my 97 Fire 2.4 w/ the 4T40E. It looks like the only thing holding the mount to the bracket is a single bolt? Well, I tried unscrewing that bolt and almost immediately it started to round off. I was using the correct size socket. I guess I am trying to verify that the single bolt going through the mount and mount bracket is the only thing holding the two together, and if so, what are my options for removing it now that the bolt head is rounded off? I am familiar with easy-outs if that is the last option available to me at this point. Thanks for reading.

Taking that small bolt out in the center of the mount won't help you out at all. You have to take the bolts from the mount to the tranny out and the bolts from the body to the mount out. I think all together there are 6-8 bolts that have to come out.

I should also mention that the mount and bracket are out of the car and sitting on the workbench.

so your trying to separate the 2 halves... good luck!! When i did mine I stripped the bolt, drilled it out for an easy-out, broke the easy-out off in the hole, then finally welded a bolt into the hole and I still couldn't get it apart. I had to butcher the rubber part of the mount (it was being replaced anyway) and cut the steel collar off to get the thing loose. I recommend LOTS of penetrating oil (WD-40, etc) and lots of heat.

ok, my only question is why would you want to remove it ?
