What kind of power can I expect my stock 5 speed Isuzu tranny to handle with an LSD? Any ideas?

isuzu trannies weak point are the spider gears, even stock powered cars destroy them.

if its already apart finding ways to strengthen it would be ideal, ie cryotreatment

the T\G drag car blew up the 'pinion' or input gear in the tranny........ (we think, the spidergears where welded, and it still grenade'ed under the power of a N\A W41)

that tranny just sucks.

Well, I've got some big plans for a 3400 drop in, and I don't want to bomb money on an LSD and clutch for the tranny if it's going to asplode without any sort of life out of it. Then again, I'm not sure if the new getrag bolts up to the 3400 or not.

250+ whp for over a year with an izuzu. don't quite know how you would put one down in a built quad. not arguing they're not garbage, but that's a little crazy

Blew it up, build numbers coming soon

I'm running a stock 2.2 Isuzu tranny on my 3400. It hasn't broke (yet).

Most of the fastest and most powerful cars on this forum are running isuzu's.
If by "LSD" you mean a real limited slip differential (replacement i.e. Quaife) then the trans is almost indestructable based on my experiences.

By LSD I mean an insert that team green sells. SHOff, how long have you had the 3400 in your cavvy? What are your driving habits and what do you put down at the wheels?

I don't drive the car a lot. But when I do, i'm not usually especially nice to it. But I don't go around doing burnouts and brakestands and all that crap (which helps extend the life of your tranny by a lot). I've had the 3400 in there for a couple years now. I've not had it dyno'd (but I wanna do that this year). Other 3400's have put down close to 190whp and over 200wtq. My guess is that i'm probably fairly close to that area.

SHOff, do you have a LSD insert or anything? - The 3400 I'm putting in, I'm aiming for atleast 240 fwhp. And it's my daily driver. I'd probably take it to the track atleast a handfull of times. Plans for slicks and mid to high 13's till I hook up a bottle to it.

Does it take much to swap out trannies then, for my car? From the Isuzu I have to the new getrag? (01 from a base cavvy 2.2 OHV, bolts up to the 3400.)

read what people have done.. lots of people have done it.

trans mounts, new trans mount bracket welded to the unibody, shift cables, 00 up center counsel, shifter assy, clutch, flywheel, TOB, master with line.....

thats all of the top of my head,

Or get the NVG\Muncie tranny and make a cable adapter...

I said "stock" tranny didn't I?

Basically the way i'm doing it is to drive it the way it is until the power breaks it. Then I'll decide how much power it can take. I really doubt it'll take a turbo and 10psi and live through it for very long (which could protentiall be upwards of 350whp). I'm just gonna keep stacking power on and running it. Eventually it'll break and I'll know.
