well i was racing at the track friday night for test and tune and wasnt running as good as i could have. the whole day i was thinking it was tranny related. then after my 4th run i was going to get my time slip and realized 2nd was out. so i went from 1st to 3rd thinking it was alright then i realized 4th was out too. so i got a little worried. i pull over to stop racing for a while, poped the hood and let it cool down thinking it may have been too hott. then when i tried to pull out of my spot my reverse was out too. i have no clue what happened. when i try to shift it feels really easy and wont stay in gear. 1st, 3rd, and 5th are the only gears i had to drive home with. my buddies tranny guy that was down there at the time said he thinks its the cable but he wouldnt know for sure unless he dropped it and checked it out. so i figured i would ask on here before i head to the shop. anyone know what this could be or how this could have happened?
A lot of people have this happen. Its from slamming it into gear too hard. I think it has something do do with the shfiter cables, or the shifter itself, not the transmission. To make sure, disconnect the cables from the transmission. Its easy to do. You should be able to move the shifter on the transmission through all the gears like this if the car is off.
