Ok, so I'm rebuilding my transmission. A 98 z24 with the Isuzu 5 speed. Basically I have the transmission out of the car but I now can't figure out how to get the 32mm nuts off the gears? or whatever they are. The pictures below show what I am trying to do.
Well if anybody knows an easy way to get these off or any other tips for rebuilding a transmission please share. And no, I'm not asking for someone to just tell me to take it to a shop.
I have a couple ideas as to why they are not coming off...
1) the dimples in the nut are making them not come off.
2) one of the nuts may be a reverse thread
try to put it into 2 gears at once to lock the trans to help get the nuts off more then likely these are high tq nuts.
I think they're the same size as the axle nut.
When I took mine apart, I think stuck a flat screwdriver in to jam the one gear to keep it from moving. Still kinda difficult, they're made NOT to come off that's for sure. An impact will be your best friend here.
