Getrag M86 Shift Mechanism wanted
Thursday, July 12, 2007 9:18 AM
I just got back from the dealer & they want $487 for this piece. Its the mechanism that bolts onto the transmission. Anyone who can help me out or point me in the right direction as to where I might find one is greatly appreciated.

It's from a 2000 Z24 with the M86 5 speed Getrag.

Here's a picture of what I am looking for. You can see one of the tabs that broke off for the shift fork. Any suggestion?

Salvage yard. Hell, you can get the whole trans from a salvage yard for less than that price if you look around.

Yeah, I'm checking around now. I'll probably go that route & have some spare parts.

Thanks, Greg!

I thought about having it mig or tig welded. I hve a stick welder, but I really dont want to have problems down the road. I figured if the weld breaks then I'll have a small piece of metal floating around in the tranny that could cause damage, at least until the magnet picks it up.

I did find one for $60 shipped out of Minesota. I did a nationwide search on Car parts.com & found a few trannys with a broken case or listed as NFG, so I sent them emails asking about the mechanism. I'll see I guess....

Thanks for all the suggestions!

If they won't part out the ones with the busted case, if its cheap enough, you could always go ahead and buy it anyhow, and get the parts you need and have the rest JIC.

If you look at the picture on the right you'll see the piece that broke off. It was a small tab that was in between the 2 tabs on the end of the shaft, if that makes sense.

Here's a modfied picture of where the piece broke off:

I have one I keep as a spare just in case I break mine!!!

I just might have to pick up a few more when I find them in the junk yard.
