Ratchet shifter on a 96 3 speed....info request

I searched and came up empty handed.

does anyone have any input on this being doable or not?

The car is a 96 cav with the 3 speed auto.

I heard it was possible, just looking for some more info on the subject.

I have heard of this being done, but requires some sheet metel cutting/trimming, console mods and adapting the aftermarket linkages to the tranny's fittings.
