NVG-T550 or MK7?
Tuesday, March 27, 2007 8:55 AM
OK my Z-24 is currently dead in the water because the tranny is stuck in neutral. I haven't pulled it yet (doing that tonight) but we did remove the plate where the linkage goes into the gear rails. The gear rails can't be moved even with a 3FT pry bar.

For a little history my 1998 Z-24 has 195K and this is my second Isuzu trans so I guess I've had better luck than most. I broke the diff in the first one and replaced it at 60K. The current one has 175K on it and has been getting hard to shift for the last year. I use my ZZ as my DD and my weekend track car. I run road courses like VIR (www.virclub.com), Rockingham, Roebling Road, etc. I have a custom built roll bar, race seats, harnesses, coil-over suspension, etc. '01 2.4L LD9 is stock except pulley & intake.

OK so, after reading what seems like every damn post on the NVG-T550 swap (why can't we just have a FAQ section that explains all this stuff in detail?) I've almost decided to go that route when I replace the tranny. Here's my dilemma. I've found a NVG-T550 from a 1993 Acheiva with 162K miles for $350. I've also found a MK7 Isuzu with 52K for $650.

So decision time, and this is where you guys come in. 162K is a lot of miles, but the NVG-T550 is a far superior tranny right? I also looked up the discontinued input shaft seal on GMPD and it shows up so I assume I could get a new one no problem.

Which one, and why?

TIA
