Hi everybody.
When I drive my car during a cold morning, my 5TH gear give resistance and don't want to go in. If I double clutch it, it's OK, no problem. 15 minutes after I start, it give only little resistance and go in... I don't know much about transmission, but it seems that the temperature of the tranny has an influence on this... What's the problem?
And it's a 5speed 99 cavalier Z24
When was the last time the tranny oil was changed? Sounds like it could be overly thick fluid.
It was changed last year, I drove all winter wtih this oil and no problem...
and it's only in 5th gear, all other gears are fine
It still may be possible since technically 5th gear is "outside" the case with relatively small holes to get oil to it.
I don't remember very well, but I think my mechanic put motor oil in it to be easier to shift in winter
motor oil
thats not what you use. ive always used GM synchromesh.
Does an oil change will fix this?
any input is welcome
since i switched to synthetic 5w30 back in 2000, i have had no problems.
yes, 5w30 in the transmission.
never put @!#$ motor oil in a transmission thats what the mechanic wants somthing to break so they get the money to fix the prblem go to a chevy dealer and get it done RIGHT!!!!!

I don't know. Motor oil probably isn't all that bad. Manual trannies use various oils. Hell, the Getrag uses ATF....
And i do know some take 5w30. Although, I would always use what was recommended by the manufacturer.

i work for GM and we never use motor oil in any trans
