Will parts from a SOHC Storm tranny fit the 5 spd?

Other than the spider gears, will any other parts from the SOHC Geo Storm tranny fit a 5 spd for a 98 Z24? My brother called a junk yard in town, and they have a tranny from a 92 SOHC Storm for 300 bucks. Could he use anything from that tranny to fix his z24 tranny? He's looking at 700-1000 bucks or more for a rebuild of the Z24 tranny.

What's wrong with his tranny? I'm pretty sure that any of the gear sets will swap in, but when I did my spiders I kept the gears all the same.

btw, I got my 91 SOHC Geo tranny from a junkyard w/ 65K miles, tested and warranteed for $100.

His tranny won't go into any gear, just makes a grinding sound. It first started out on righthand turns, it felt like it was slipping or driving over a rock.. It got worse quite fast, like within a few days. He called a few transmission shops, they both said they know exactly what he's talking about, they get those all the time. One place gave him a quote over the phone of 700 bucks, the other place said he could be looking at 1000 or more. My brother even called the GM parts counter in town and asked about the price of ring and carrier gears (something like that) and he got a price of 613 bucks. He misses the hell out of his car and he wants to get it fixed up but he doesn't know what it needs done, or even how much he's gonna have to shell out. He's driving my 96 Sunfire now and I'm starting to miss my car too
