Isuzu andgetrag mounts?
Thursday, August 03, 2006 9:01 PM
did some research but didnt find anything.....So i picked up a 99 sunfire 2.4L with a 5spd for a $1000.00. I am swapping the 5 spd into my 97 cavy...Yes i know i should of got a getrag but i coudnt pass up this deal so i am stuck with the Isuzu......question is, if i decide to put getrag in next year or so will the mounts be the same....also will the brackets that are welded oi the frame be the same as well, as far as location goes...thanks in advance..

no, you will have to weld them in. The Isuzu tranny isnt that bad, its got its weaknesses like any other.

The front tranny mount (near the front of the car) you could still use (when doing the getrag swap), but will need a new hole drilled. The rear mount is different.

I hope you changed the spider gears in your isuzu tranny! If not and you end up with a humming noise from your trans after a hard launch at the track it's probably the powdered metal spiders bent. I speak from experience.

Technicly the there is only one Getrag..... the 00+ (at least with Internal Slave)...... the other popular trans to swap in is the NVG..... The older Getrag was an External Slave....

FYI I did the same thing (thought no big deal, my tranny is running and feels great, I'll do the spider gears later) but all it took was one good launch at the track and little spider gear metal bits shreaded their way through the entire tranny. nothing was salvagable except shifter forks and reverse main gear. I don't mean to scare you but for the cost and time it takes to swap spiders, it's well worth it. I bought my 93 storm tranny for $150 and once I had the 2 trannys sitting on my bench it only took maybe 2 hours to do the swap. (I took my time)
