i just got my cavy not to long ago and i was wondering if there was someway i can tell if it is a 2.2 or a 2.4
and thats the ONLY info your going to give us? please learn to be more informative with your posts.
now to answer your question......well....i cant because i have no idea:
1) what year car
2) wheather its a cavalier or sunfire
3) what model or # of doors/trim if you dont know the model
please answer those and i can tell you.

Well one way how you can tell is to look in the engine bay and check the engine cover.. If it says 2.4L twin cam, then there ya go you have you answer..
If it says 2200 on the intake tube, you have a 98+ 2200.
If it says 2.2 ecotec you have a 2002+ Eco motor
If it doesn't say none of the above, you have the 95-97 2.2 OHV..
Im assuming you have a 3rd GEN, thats what my answeres are based off off

The 2.4 has DOHC, and the 2.2 has a big number "2200" on the stock airbox. Also, there are pictures of each engine type in your manual.
^ That's not a good reference. The 2.3 had DOHC on it too. The 2.4 says clearly 2.4 on it. You gotta be dumb and blind not to see it.
