i mean shifting without the clutch does anyone know how to do it? a friend said there is a certain pont wher you can change gears without the clutch. i can take it out of gear without it but it wont go back into the next gear. it would be faster to shift this way
your friend is retarded. Power shifting is when you shift you don't let up on the gas when you put in the clutch. Unless you want to destroy your tranny, don't listen to him.

I can shift it without the clutch. Just line up the synchros. Can be done on any tranny. However, if the clutch is working, dont do it on a snchro tranny.

My question is why do it? Faster shift? do you sleep when you race?!?!?!? It take like .5 second to shift. Learn to drive and you won't need some lame ass method.

People do it cause it is an instant power boost when you shift. Its not good for the tranny though as it was said cause it REALLY wears down the clutch and puts hella strain on the trans. If you're good at racing anyways, you won't even need to do it. Just do redline shift, gas, redline, shift, gas. Same effect and a LOT less strain.

As stated what you describe is not power shifting. Yes you can shift our trannies (actually any tranny with out a clutch. You can even start from a stop with out using the clutch. It does NOT hurt the tranny if done right. It does not strain the clutch either.
true power shifting (as stated before) is not letting off the gas while shifting. Is it harder on the clutch of course (so is racing in general). Shifting fast has nothing to do with power shifting. Power shifting keeps the RPM's up so when you let the clutch out your RPM's are not too low.

Do you not think .5 of a second is a lot of time? Considering most of us only have 15-16 seconds on a run, ever .1, or .2 you can get is a lot.

take off with out the clutch and change gears without it? it just something i want to do but dont want to grind the gears trying to do it right. thanks
put the car in gear not running, turn ign key to start, car will lurch forward untill it fires, give it gas and away you go. to shift to 2nd, rev to say 3000 rpm, let off gas and shift out of 1st -wait for engine revs to drop- now shift into 2nd. (dont force it ) repeat. its good to know if your clutch wont disengage, when you need to stop, let off gas pop it into neutral, shut ign. off. REMEMBER NOT TO LOCK STEERING COLUMN!! once stopped repeat from the beginning. i had a clutch cable snap once, this got me home. it has no performance benefit.
This may be kind of an ignorant question, but why have a clutch at all if you can just do this?
because if you need to stop your car at a stop light or something you'll have to keep starting your car(the battery will run out super fast) or pushing it to align the engine and the gear. the only case you have to power shift is if your clutch actuator line bursts(it happens)
Power shifting is shifting with the rpm to alighn with the syncros for your gears
powershifting is a bad idea to save gas or your clutch just let your rpms down to align at neutral then shift into the next gear.
Our cars won't turn over if the clutch isn't in. So I'm not too sure how you are going to start from a dead stop while the car isn't on without the clutch. You can do it without using the gas.
you would need a powerful battery too. the stock ones cant give the power to turn-over on 1st
