Now that I know exactly what was going on with the clutch, I need to try to get my $$$ back from either the shop or the company that sold it to me. Does any one else know (besides Richard because he already helped me) how to tell if a clutch was put in incorrectly? Thanks. Mods, you can delete part one if you'd like.
A little help please, people? I'm feeling rather hopeless. When I talk to the Co. I purchased from, they said none of the numbers stamped on the actual parts are the part number. They said it was on the the box...of course the box was thrown away a long time ago (the shop). Now it seems that with out the PN, I'm screwed.
Look guys, I know it's a boring subject but common help me out. All I ask for is the squeezing of a few brain cells...when I win the lottery I really am going to throw a big party for every member of the org!
i think the only way may be to lay it next to a stock clutch............maybe there will be a big enough difference to see
i wish you luck babe
I ain't callin u a gold digga,but you ain't messin wit a broke cracka
Well,if they put the clutch in backwards, there should be marks on the flywheel from the springs on the clutch plate scraping it.You should be able to tell right away when you look at the clutch. There shouldnt be any marks on the clutch plate or flywheel at all.The only thing that makes contact is are the clutch pads(cant remember the name). When i first replaced my clutch,i put it in backwards. The only issues i had was that it made squeeling noises when taking off in first gear, and it didnt want to shift at higher rpm.I put like 1000 miles on it like that, but i didnt damage anything.I just dropped the trans and turned the clutch plate around.I never had any problem with the throwout bearing over extending and popping.I think they put the wrong clutch in the right box.Even if you put the clutch plate in backwards,it shouldnt effect the throw out bearing.Correct me if im wrong, but the clutch plate sits inside of the pressure plate. When you push the clutch pedal,it pushes the throwout bearing against the pressure plate fingers right? The pressure plate wouldnt move more in because you put the clutch in backwards, its still bolted in the same place.Good luck.

I dunno about your particular clutch (since you didn't say what kind, at least not in this thread).. but with my SPEC stage 2 in my Getrag trans, you'd have to be stoned to put it in backwards. it doesn't even fit properly. You'd probably break stuff. The one side of the clutch disc has too much stuff on it (springs, etc) to fit between the flywheel and clutch cover if it's installed backwards. Likely it'd either break the clutch disc itself or at least grind some good marks into the flywheel.
There's no way the clutch would disengage if the thing was installed backwards. It would bind against the flywheel and the thing would spin the trans as soon as you fired it up.
Besides... the thing came with a "FW" sticker on one side. pretty hard to miss that one
Thanks guys for the input. I guess the last thing I have to do is compare the aftermarket clutch to the stock one...BTW, it's a Centerforce Duel-Friction clutch (stage II). Thanks again!
