hey guys quick question..

i was driving home today, and all of the sudden, it felt like my clutch pedal was engaging real close to the floor, so i pulled off to the side, and then it just quit working... i can push the pedal all the way down, and it wont come back up, and i cant get it in gear.... but when i have the car off, i can shift thru the gears perfectly... i had to get it towed to the dealership, and pray to god it is covered under warranty..

anyway, anyone know what the problem could be? i have asked my g/f's dad, hes a class a mechanic, and he said somethign about it loosing hydro. fluid or something.. clutch slave master was in that explination, but im not a pro, i have no clue wtf hes talking about.. so ANY help would be greatly! appreachiated!

Thanks guys.. i hope to get some understaing on when it will be fixed, cause i need a car for school...

OMG the same $hit just happened to me. Unfortunately my 04 has 53k miles on it and will not be covered under warranty. So far my bill is @ $884.00
I had in the past went to Chevrolet when that car was still under warranty and had them inspect the clutch. However during that time they claimed for everything to be fine. After calling Chevrolet many many times, I am still stuck with the bill. The dealer still has my car, they claim that it will be ready by Tuesday. THAT SUCKS!

By the way dougall, how many miles did you have.

One more thing, what the dealer told me was that my clutch actuator/ slave cylinder has gone out. And that it is located inside the tranny.

It is either the clutch master cylinder (my guess), or throw out bearing. I know fo a local 2003 that went through 3 clutch master cylinders.

and they didnt say anything about warranty, but since they ordered parts, without my permission on giving the OK, im not paying for it lol

mine did that on Friday 9/9 the day we had our baby, I took it to cottman transmission to have it fixed it was only 760 to have fixed. it was the master cylinder and slave too!!! f&^*in peice of sh$t, i will never buy another GM ever again. the service shop at 4 gm dealerships said anything with the transmission is not covered under warranty since its "a wear and tear item"

Same happened to me and its not always the master cylinder. My clutch pipe got a hole in it from rubbing against another piece of plastic on the electric control moduel under your resivior. The reason the say your master cylinder in all cases is even if its a hole in the line then new part comes with the cylinder, thats why. and yes that is cover under warranty that is not normal wear and tear. Mine happened b./c I have motor mounts and it keeps my motor from rocking back and forth. Normally my motor would rock taking out the slack in the line which means the clutch pipe wouldn't touch the control module. GM used 3 diff. kinds of clutch pipes in our calls for various reasons (mainly people complaining about noises). I'm getting a new one today and it is covered under warranty. YOU need to check your clutch pipe and make sure nothing is touching it at all!

it is that line. i 1st had a problem when the pedal felt soft one night. put my foot on it, sraight to the floor. took it to the shop the next day. but mine was covered by warrtey. what about this wear and tear bs. clutch fricton disc or pressure plate ok wear and tear. but the master cylinder, come one. it is the same as the brake master, it shouldn't go out under 20,000 miles like my clutch line did. i seen a guy get a new tailgate hanges because his straps broke and his fat butt bend them complain enough you will get you way. the whole warrtey thing is bs. rich people with trailblazers and vetts. get anything covered why can we with our $15000 cars. i mean come on.

wow, you guys all got taken for a ride......... I bet the dealer just threw both of them in, and called it a day...... there is almost NO possable way BOTH will have failed at the same time. If the plastic line rubbed threw, go to the wrecking yard and get one....... all 00+ J bodies use the same line. Prolly cost you $5 and another $2 for some fluid.

If it was the slave cylinder, thats a pricey part, about $350.......... and figure another $250-350 to install it (about 3 hour job).......... not sure how much the master cylinder runs, but also a piece of cake to install....... maybe half hour.....

I guess it pays to know how to work on your own car (exp. if its not under warrenty)

yeah it is like a fifty dollar part. and they tried to pin it on how i had my master cylinder mounted. but the leak was at the other end of the hose. i was lucky that my dad was the parts manger at the sister store. they never want to cover anything under warrenty

Clutch Master Cylinder = $100(ish) at the dealer.

Throw Out Bearings = $300-400

To check if your throw out beaing is crap, fill you fluid to the top and then press your clutch in repeatedly. You will more than likely have a nice puddle under the getrag. I have only been thru 3 or 4 of these.

Dropping the transmission is not hard to do. You will need at least one more person unless you have the proper tools to do this. Unhook everything off the transmission that is connected to the transmission(axle, grounds, etc, etc). I believe socket size is 18mm. 5-8 bolts hold it to the motor.

If you decide to drop your transmission and do the work yourself, you might as well do the clutch while your in there.

Go with Gravana Tuning and avoid Mantapart like the plague.

I had this same thing happen to me and all it was is the Clutch Actuator Pipe. They didn't have to get into the transmission. My clutch went all the way to the floor and I could almost not get my car into gear. I was freakin'. It was covered under warranty luckily for me. Hope all goes well for you........
