I've been toying with the idea of making a turbo kit for the Ecotec Cavaliers to start (no universal piping from Ebay
), and I was wondering what would you guys want out of the kit? What I mean by that is do you guys want a fast spooling car with generous gains over stock (like 70-100hp) or a out of the box and on to the car horsepower monster kit? The development of the turbo kit will not begin until a couple months, so don't get too excited yet. My partner and I have a lot of work and R&D to do to ensure the efficiency and longevity of both the car and product. We WILL be searching for a guinnea pig in the Alabama and surrounding areas though, so feel free to e-mail me (email listed below) if interested and I will be sure to keep in touch. The person selected will only pay COST for the parts we will use minus the charge pipes, which will be on us.
Thanks folks and I am very excited to begin serving the
community!

Honestly, an affordable , reliable , no b/s kit would sell. 8-10 PSI , ALL FUEL , PARTS , TUNING ALL IN ONE BOX.
You guys will indeed get all the parts to make a reliable kit. The most difficult option we are working with is tuning right now. We're taking small steps, but keep the comments coming.

Thats the Hahn kit right there. Sure it might cost a bit more than most are used to, but you get what you pay for. You gotta pay to get the best.

But no Ryne.............
We demand the best at only $1299.99 and everything else is overpriced hype or a cheap kit that doesn't have any fuel upgrades or tuning equipment. .

Although i am not in the market for a turbo kit or parts, these are some things i would like to see in a kit if i was.
- Cast turbo manifold (this would score major points with me) optional coating
- A down pipe (fabbing your own downpipe is a pain in the ass) optional coating
- At least 2 different compressor and turbine options for the turbo (different drivers, different needs)
- Aluminum charge pipes, no fab work needed
- Reliable fuel upgrades
- BOV
- Check valves and catch can for the PCV system
- intercooler with designated mounting points
-EVERYTHING else needed to be a true "bolt on" kit
Just some ideas....

Thanks for the input, guys. Ryne, I understand that Hahn is in a class of its own, but we intend to one day be on their level of expertise. I figure that the jbody and future Eco family needs more than just one reliable kit to play around with, don't you think?
Skilz, thanks for your input especially. I didn't think about introducing multiple turbos until I read your reply. With that said, I'm especially looking into using ball bearing turbochargers with our kits.
Bballjamal, our kits will be close to the $3000 mark if not above it. They're going to be full kits that will have a lot of R&D performed to maximize ease of installation and minimize, perhaps eliminate fabrication (which is what I'm aiming for.)
Keep em comin!

Sasuke...that want a shot at you by any means.
It was a shot at everyone who says that there isn't a CHEAP, reliable, easy to install kit. Those things cost money. If you want cheap go buy all your parts on ebay, make your own piping, do your own R&D and everything else thats involved. People everywhere, and especially in the J scene, want parts cheap yet perfect. Perfect and tested costs money. You get either or...not both.

^^ I didn't take any offense.
I was also thinking about adding a "pre-tapped" oil pan to help make the kit a real "bolt-on" application. Keep in mind, this isn't going to be strictly for
owners. The other models in the GM family that use the Ecotec motor will be looked into as well. We're also looking into boosting a Saturn Sky later this year, but that's another project in itself.
And for you Honda trolls on this website. We are tackling the new Civic SI at the same time we're tackling the
project. We will be looking for a test car in the Alabama area within a few months for those that are interested.

Why tape the oil pan on a Eco when you can tape the lower girdle and use the factory turbo oil return place?

That's right, the Eco Saab cars are tapped at the girdle. I'll look into it.
Thanks!

It's going to take a lot of work to beat the Hahn kit. Not just the kit, but the company as well.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
^^ You are right, but I intend to be on their level of expertise and tenure in the tuning community. Maybe not now, maybe not for the next few years, but we I will be there. The only difference is we also retail lots of products. The R&D division will not be in full capacity until mid 2006 or early 2007. My partner is doing a lot of work with demographics and checking out prices for a shop, so whenever he is done is when we have a shop.
From there of course the possibilities are only as limited as our imaginations.
Thanks for your input!

And your budget
fortune cookie say:
better a delay than a disaster.
good luck with the new civic si. k pro by itself is 1000 dollars.
these motors require a large turbo which is not cheap, my guess is , with the profit your looking for youd need to charge 5000 for a kit.
the k series motors make solid power, but at a price, parts for these cars are astronomical. its too new. and as always a turbo honda is all the rage these days.
as far as a solidly reliable gm kit, the engine management is the key. i wouldnt even call the kit "reliable" unless it had mega squirt or a tuning equivalent where you are able to tune both fuel and ignition tables. everything else is "just a bandaid fix"
a cast manifold isnt the best choice imo. ive seen way more cast manis crack personally than any well constructed tubular mani.
i just want stuff to install the turbo i have in my firends shop. if you have a intercooler and manifold and piping kit that would be awsome, yeah and sell the part by them self also. for do it you selfers.
