problems with daily driven turbo J ?

What are the problems that you daily driven turboed guys get with your setups ? I am under the impression that if I get the megasquirt and tune it right, I can just leave it like that and be worry free since it's a stand-alone. I ask because my car is most probably getting boosted but I do drive about 80 miles everyday to go to work. I am planning on running about 8 psi intercooled, just to get about 220 whp for daily driving, and maybe pushing it a bit when I go to the track.

Oh yeah also I will probably drive my car in the winter. This means sub -20 C degrees cold starts.

i have no issues than a slightly hard start in the chicago winter. but then again i have 40LB injectors with only 15PSI pressure behind them on startup.

i still get 24-26MPG with my hahn stage 3 kit though. but i drive like a woman in the winter.

My car has a block heater for some odd reason that I found while installing my turbo kit. But I am sure as long as you let it warm up a bit before driving it and you should be fine.

dude....if you dont want the block heater I'll take it. I've been trying to get one for a while but the dealerships want $100. GMPD wants $35 though so maybe I'll go that way.

I drive like a total grandma in the winter, even with my stock car. Like I let it idle a bit after starting it up, then I barely push the accelerator, shifting at about 2500 rpm, until the engine heat gets to at least 1/4 of the gauge. I'm thinking I can stay out of boost easily doing this ?

Wondering what I'm going to do for the ENTIRE summer ...next summer.... maybe not drive it like it wasn't turbo ........... and start to walk more and stuff.... uhhh ya not happening.... Happy boosting ...................

tune for a lower octane pump gas and drive sanely. our turbo honda sedan still got 33 MPG under 8 psi... and a LOT it was spent in boost. you just need the right tune man.

LOL well I am here in Colorado so I do greatly need the block heater. I am glad I found it to because last winter I was having stalling problems at idle as well that I needed to get the computer re-caliberated.

this is what I couldnt understand.. everyone said I'd have to run 93/94 once I'm boosted and swore by the higher octane rated fuel. Hell no, I'll just tune for a lower grade and not spend a fortune at the pump. People can be so naive sometimes.

Isnt it funny how we take economy cars and take all that away.

I plan on getting a beater car once i get a 5spd and boost it...
Something like $500 dollars, or even better two breakfast burritos. =p

no problems resulting from the daily grind. they've all come from two track days.
keep it sane and you'll keep your axles together. just be sure to upgrade other goodies at the same time as or before installing forced induction, and all will be well.

I drive my hahn stage 2 turbo hard daily and still avg 27mpg. I just did the initial tune and haven't had to do any readjustments since. Like Ron Popiel says, set it and forget it.

And how do you recommend setting the tune on the cars that are fuel only? Gotta have control of the spark to do anything reasonable.

The largest problem I have is keeping out of the throttle. But I don't mind tuning... it's something I look forward to.

People are uninformed. That's what tuning is all about. I'll stick to QT 91 octane gas for low boost (10 psi), 104 race fuel for high boost (20 psi), and some 116 leaded for the occasional 30 psi dyno pull just for @!#$s and grins

ok, so you guys are talking about the warming up a car before high rpm's? i know thats a good idea but i blew my motor when it was FREEZING out side, i had just started my car and it wasnt warmed up all the way, and i hit 11psi, could that be why my rod snapped was the temp of my motor? cuz i always hit 11psi every day no problem. but the first time i hit boost in freezing weather it poped like nothing. could that have played a big part or no?

^^^ I'm fairly certain that the not-warming-up-your-car-before-you-drive-like-a-maniac was the problem
