Ok well i had a post up about a loss in powerd and a god awful lugging noise as soon as i hit boost... now i am wondering could this be a Bearing(s) in the supercharger?
I have checked the fuel pump, fuel filter, all the pluging/hoses on the supercharger and they are all good.. only thing i can think of now is the bearings are gone on me
If so has any one else had this? and is this going to cost me an arm and a leg at the GM dealership? as i missed sending in my damn warenty card by 2 weeks
i dont know why it matters when you send it in though...

always when you hit boost? like any rpm, warm or cold?
i was thinking map sensor but that may not be it if it happens all the time
14.82 @ 97 mph
Yep this is the symptoms ahah:
- Warm, cold or in between
- All gears
- as soon as the boost gauge goes into boost
- and when its in boost and acting up it wont let me go higher then 5000rpm, its like my rev limiter is there and it bounces of 5000rpm if i make it there (only in boost though)
- Started after a nice burn out down the length of the parking lot after a late nice hockey practice (didnt let the car warm up at all which i always ushally doo.. but i think this is what @!#$ me up)
- when it started it was only some times when i got into boost and slowly over time it built up to the point its at now and its every time it sees boost now
ahaha ok i think thats it... and here is the things i have checked so far
- fuel pump (took it right out... looked at it no sign of crap sucked up when i went compleatly empty)
- Fuel filter ( took it right off... blew threw it and definatly not clogged at all)
- Spark plugs (was lazy and only took of the on closer to the pasenger side and it had a tiny bit of white on but nothing that its never had be for)

If your s/c bearings were shot, you wouldn't just hear it during boost.

so it would be all the time if the bearings were shot?
i mean i know its still broken but i love to hear new like that... i dont want to be digging into the supercharger now... my project for this car right now as we speak is costing me at least my left leg

a bearing shouldn't prevent it from hitting >5000 rpm
maybe something electrical ... like the ignition coils are not getting enough power above 5000 .. causing the spark to go out
14.82 @ 97 mph
well as long as i stay out of boost i can make it right up too 6200 or what ever the normal red line is...
i am going to get it scaned by a buddy here at a GM shop... wont be till saturday though.. but i am hopping for a sensor error ahaah ... i never hope for them.. but this time i pray for it... COME ONNNNN BAD MAP SENSOR...

Probably ignition. Like that stupid coil housing.

it would act up under boost only though?

josh,
did u say u had ur pcm replaced underwarranty recently? I would double check that it was reflashed.

The boost would put a higher demand on the ignition system.
When the coil housing on the 97 2.4 was going out, it would misfire at higher rpms at wot. It would sputter a bit. I'm not sure what the lugging is.
ok, how do u make it up to that high of an RPM with no boost? its an S/C, its always turning at no matter what RPM and i can assume anything over 2k you're making boost

Nope. You can go the entire rpm range with the gm s/c and not make boost. Why? Because of the bypass valve that doesn't close until it sees that you are wanting to really get on the throttle.
What's this lugging noise you talk of. Try to explain it better.

humm maybe ill try that... i got a few more IDI covers laying around here any way...

Yea i did... but it ran fine for the first few days after... like it boosted nicly...

easy... the GM supercharger has a by pass valve... and goes by vacume... so as long as i dont put my foot the the floor and ride out each gear for a long time.. the rpms climb and i stay at like 5 on the vacume side.. and never see boost... like i can take off really hard and have it in boost and still be in boost say in 4th gear... and then start to coast with my foot still on the gas just not as far in and even if the rpms are at like 4000.. ill still be out of boost...

i may have missed it, but is it throwing a code? Is it dumping fuel? Do you have alcohol injection? Could be tps... but taht doesn't explain the noise. Does it get excessively louder with higher rpms? keep us updated!!!

Yep there is a check engine light... but thats always been on since the supercharger was on... the O2 sensor puts that on... but their might be more.. im getting it scaned on saturday...
Alcohol injection ist on right now so that couldnt be it..
TPS is brand new and i know how it feels when it acts up and this isnt it
humm the noise doesnt get louder as the RPMS go up.. well it does but normal loudness... its just when i put the foot into the pedal more and i go into boost...then it makes this weird noise...
I am going to try another IDI cover cuz i was told it might be the coil packs which would make some sense and i got one layen around... then if that doesnt work ill get it scaned... and if i still doesnt work ill take it for a drive and video tape it and you guys can hear the sound it makes and what not... so it wont be me just trying to describe it.. as that can some times be hard to understand ahaha

i am too lazy to think about it right now/ or possiable problems.
Well i put the other IDI cover on and still the same thing happens when i get into boost... so now its down to Map Sensor, Bearings in the supercharger or a bad connection some where...

what are your plugs gapped at? what do your plugs look like?
your plug boots ok? white coil cover have carbon tracking on it?
your map sensor plugged in? does it have a vaccum line going to it?
you monkey with any vaccumm lines? the by pass thing ?
you said you blew through the fuel filter? i would spend the 10$ and put a new one in there, why in the world you didnt do that in the first place is beyond me. you could have in a worse case extreme synareio(spelling) blew some dirt into the filter, then put it back on and that dirt got clogged into your injector and it is sorta spraying fuel, maybe causing a code(lean in bank one). never know.
pump- i would replace it. /upgrade it
hard to say, could be you are going lean when going into boost and you are getting a random missfire (could be one of your codes) .
you have a fuel pressure guage ? i have one tapped into my fuel rail so i can see the fuel pressure. you might want to look into something like that to rule out the fuel system.
bearings? your never know, but i doubt it. them i would assume make noise. i heard of one GTP guy where the bearings went out, he could still make boost, but just less of it as time went on.
i am confused. could be anything. i just through out some ideas.
good luck
Jake - thanks man... ill go threw the list and see what i havent checked and check it... im getting it scaned at a dealer ship on Saturday when my buddy is working... so i hope to find somthing on that...

I was wondering since it happened when it was cold if you might have broken/cracked your SC or manifold somewhere and it is lealing boost. Leaking boost would make a funny sound. Also if you were leaking boost you might be getting too much gas so it would not run so great. I would be shocked if I am right since I do not see how this would cause your car to seem like it is bouncing of the rev limeter @ 5 grand. It would be a huge help if you knew your exact fuel pressure, boost preasure and AFR when this occurs.

well i got it scaned about 1hr ago... scaner came up with the following
- gas tank door open (but thats when i did the fuel pump stuff so it wasnt a concern)
-Crank shaft sensor was reading wrong, re-learned it (if thats a word) and cleared it
- EVAP solinoid was reading 0% all the time (
could this be it?
ahah and also when my buddy scaned it and had to rev it up there didnt aprear to be any kind of rev limiter ahah meaning i was well into the red line when he reved it up and he gave me this werid look kind of like this ---->
because even after when i was driving home and the check engine light was off it still was acting up when i got into boost

it happens RIGHT when the boost gauge goes from Vaccume to boost... as it 1psi
