2.2 ohv adjusting boost issues
Monday, November 28, 2005 3:12 PM
A couple months ago I bought a 60 trim turbo to replace my smaller t3 I had on my cavy. I have been having boost problems since. I havn't had a lot of time to mess with it but yesterday I did a little bit. This is a dual port diaphram on the wastegate. I have tried both ports and made sure I am getting good vacuum. I can't really tell if the wastegate is even opeing because I see the gauge spikeing between 15-20 and have no traction all through 3rd, and I am like $%&*, thats way too high for just a 12-1fmu and didn't wanna lean it out. Yes this is a SSauto Chrome turbo. I have tried contacting them and have not gotten a reply yet. I know the 2 ports on the wastegate spring are for a EBC but I really can't afford that right now. What should I try next?

thanks for the concerns...........

I would say the WG isn't opening, doesn't work, or your vac source isn't working properly/and or isn't efficient enough. IDK about the dual port on the WG, since I run external...I would try moving the gates arm in and out to see if it will oopen the flapper...or try adjusting it all the way down. If you continue to overboost like you are doing, kiss your motor good-bye.

It's problems like this that makes me hate internal wastegates. Those SS Autochrome wastegates are pieces of @!#$ man, truly pieces of @!#$.

I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

Like you said, the problem is the wastegate he has and not the that he has an internal wastegate.

If I were (sad to say this to you) I would sell the turbo and save up about $600 for a quality turbo...even a used Garrett Turbo is better than the SS Chromes. This is a perfect example of you get what you pay for.

Yes it is an internally gated turbo. Yes I can move the actuating rod by hand and the flapper opens. I have tried adjusting the rod to both extremes and nothing seems to be changeing. I think the only reason why it's stopping between 15-20 is cause I have a 1g dsm and if im not mistaken they bleed around 18psi uncrushed. I have the vacuum line on my fuel rail, and I can pull it off and watch my vacuum go to 0, so I know it's a good source. Can someone tell me for sure which way to adjust the rod on the wastegate for base boost or whatever the least amount is supposed to be.
Thanks again...

The BOV has nothing to do with the PSI u r running, it just means it will hold up to 18 PSI before it will start to leak. I guess that is what you were meaning^^^^^^^. I would say the actuator doesn't work. If this is the case, I think ATPturbo sells them for around 70 bucks or so. Not sure if it'll change things, but it's a start, and alot cheaper than buying a whole new turbo...which wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Just out of curiosity how do you have your vacuum lines run to the dual port??

I originally had vacuum going to the most outside port on the diaphram ( the one on the top of it) the closest to the compressor.

That may be your problem. Try hooking both your ports up to vacuum. I'm pretty sure with a dual port if you want to run the psi that the wastegate is set for you need to hook both ports up to a vac line. Otherwise its almost like you don't even have a wastegate.
