Advice on TB for GM S/C
Monday, November 14, 2005 8:48 AM
Many companies offer 56, 59, 60, 62, and even as high as 65mm. So which would you all recommend with the combination of a GM S/C?
Curious to know what is the size of the opening of the S/C too?
Lastly, where did you people bought yours?

Thanks

The bigger the better. If you go bigger than a 62mm, you'll have to port the end of the s/c to match the TB.

i originally heard a long time ago that the s/c inlet is 60 mm. others have claimed 62. since [i think] it was 60, i bought a 59 locally. plus, it would work on the stock manifold until i bought the s/c (cuz some say the 62 hits the intake manifold opening).

i have had no problems with the rsm 59, including idle and just everything.

Thanks people.
RSM does not make a 59mm anymore right?
Also by going 62-65mm don't you think you will be stifling air velocity? I think by having that size you loose bottom end-torque but gain in high HP. Correct me if I am wrong.

get the 62mm and be done with it. You have a s/c. why are you worried about torque?

Pending on how much boost you are running is how I would match a T/B. If you are planning on 8lbs and higher deff a 62mm. Lower boost a 56 or 59 would be fine. WIth the M62 kit and 15 lbs we are gonna be running a 75mm LS1 t/b on Blacks Z24

you know, you post this in every post thats even remotely related to psi or pullies. have you ever thought that perhaps your boost gauge is off?

try a different gauge and see if you get the same results. if you do, props to u.

I agree 100%. But i believe the RSM 62mm throttle body actually only measures 60.5mm which is the same size as the blower inlet.

Yep mine was just a hair over that when I measured it.

Ya I measured it and it is exactly 60mm, I can attest.

But you guys brought up something interesting, the 62mm TB is really 60.5 mm.
Can someone really confirm that (maybe with a pic too)? Or was that just a isolated incident, because RSM clearly states "62mm."

Also the 59mm one is no longer made, correct?

Thanks for the input people.

I have the RSM 62mm, but have never measured it with a micrometer to verify it's actual size. I did notice that there is a small lip on the blower inlet that is visible through the TB opening. When I yank the S/C out to change my alternator, I'll probably machine that lip off.

With this TB and the 2.7" pulley, I've touched 8psi on a couple of occasions.

I have a RACETECH "62mm" TB....

Measured it's actually 62.8 mm.... not some BS 60mm crap.

I've been saying this for almost 3 years, nobody listens.

If you want a true 62mm + TB.... Racetech sells 'em.

The bigger the better for boost!

Ok but unless you ported to a bigger diameter anything bigger then 60mm is useless as the air from larger opening of the TB will crash kinda like a wall to the smaller inlet of the S/C, airflow is then restricted.
So does RSM's really measure 60.5mm or 62mm?
Also looking at the opening of the S/C there is not much room to widen it.
