Yeah it would work but...
1. More turbo lag. Its a bigger space to fill. Just put two and two together
2. 3in in and out= more turbo lag. Unless you use adapters and run 2.5in piping.
3. You have a J body. Where do you plan to put that thing-in front of the car?! I'm running a 6in tall intercooler with 2.5in in and out and it still fits a little tight and with a mildly noticeable amout of turbo lag. But whatever you do, make sure to get a bar and plate design-they hold more psi. Look.

there is such a thing as too big, i beleive a few months ago in sport compact car or HCI they had a really good article about differences in intercoolers (bar and plate or tube and fin) and also the size.
just like every other part for your car you should size the IC right for the best effeciancy and best power..
try searching those to mag's sites for more info
