GM S/C + running really rich, need some advice....
Saturday, October 22, 2005 7:45 PM
My car has always ran rich, but since I've had the S/C back along with the reflash it just seems like it's running too rich. Most will say too rich is better than too lean, but I think it's to the point of hurting my peformance, and mainly my pocket in terms of gas mileage.

Anyone around here knows how bad it is, as I've had complaints on the way to meets of watering eyes , and at idle you can smell raw fuel.

I'm starting to think it's because of my exhaust, test pipe, running an O2 sim to keep the light off, but I only point at this as I have no other reasoning.

Though I also wonder how beneficial running rich may be when I go with a smaller pulley?

Opinions?

No leak here!

I need wideband, but don't have the $300 for it .

I'm gonna clock my gas mileage here soon so you all can laugh at me.

Well if he is running really rich just pop a spark plug in the exhaust and light it to get rid of the smell. That test pipe should help make some nice flames!

Haha, very tempting Trey. I seen an Evo shoot a nice fireball the other day out at our local road course, no spark plug either .

FPR line is fine, as boost gauge is tapped into it and I've secured that fitting nicely.

hmm mine runs rich as hell when i get on it, i can actually see the cloud of black smoke that i leave behind when i get on it. But i still get good gas mileage and the car seems to be performing just fine so i ignore it. Last time i checked my gas, i got about 360-380 miles on the highway.

I've always run rich under boost, puffs of black smoke and one hell of a stench. Everyone says my car stinks. I never have smelled raw fuel though, that's a new one.

My mileage? No effing clue. I'm Canadian, it's all in kms anyway haha

A couple times I've had a misfire code stored, and when I check the freeze-frame on the Tech2 it shows my TPS at almost 100% open, engine load way up, RPMS through the roof, and A/F ratio at 12.6:1.

something is wrong for sure.
