Its easy Tom, just do like I do, bring it over to Brian (already done), and then hand him a check

Best guy to ask is the dude with the 2.3 HO turbo on the widebody sunfire... can't think of his name right now...

you can also send it to a garrett dealer and they will do it for like a hundred bucks or something like that. Call Precision Turbo. Those guys are GREAT.

rebuilding is pretty easy...but you can screw it up also. the kit is like $100.00 and that has everything..i bought mine from a saab website a while ago i cant remeber what it was. I have a nissan T3 out of a 86 300zx and the saab kit worked great! everything was interchangable except the thrust bearing i think thats what its called...but all the seals, gaskets, bolts, bearings (bearings are most important) all worked great. I was told T3's dont need to be re-balanced also by the website AND by a person who works on them alot so i never balanced mine and it holds out great. 10k miles and still working good =) You can check on ebay for kits also...ive seen some for around similair price.

Get a hold of Josh up there Tom, he's the one I was thinking of. He's got a whole write up somewhere and it really isn't too bad.

You will not need to have your turbo rebalanced. Just make sure you give the compressor wheel and turbine wheel a good cleaning to remove any carbon that may throw off the balance. It is slight if any, but good measures never hurt. The two wheels are individualy balanced from the factory and that should be good for the life of the wheel. Anything harmful enough to throw off the balance would render the wheel useless anyway.

In all honesty, I get rebuild kits off ebay. I've ordered a couple full kits so that I could have sair parts sitting around. Once I also ordered some turbine seals through a machine shop near where Gilles lives in Canada that specialized in turbochargers. The parts are cheap. What kit you get depends on your tear-down. If any bolts break, you may want a full rebuild kit that costs about $90. I almost always get by just replacing the bearings. If you are rebuilding because of smoking like Lee, make sure to order seals as well. He may be better off with a full kit that would include a new thrust bearing and collar as well and all of the bolts and retainers you will need for reassembly.

If anybody has any trouble find parts for a rebuild, just ask me and I will help you out. If you need more detailed pictures of a tear-down as well, I have lots of turbos in the garage that I have no problem dissasembling and taking more pictures.
