hey guys im selling my gm charged fire by the end of this year and im gonna take the cash and buy a used 2200 5spd and see what numbers i can get and what all i can do to the sohc engine. Now im looking into making a custom turbo kit for it and doing either 2.5" or 3 " downpipe back exhaust system. anything anyone who has a turbo'd 2200 can give me any tips on, im trying to find a low mileage 2200 but if not ill just put aftermarket interals in it like pistons and rods and put a turbo on it, i still have some stuff to figure out but this is what i plan on doing this winter/spring.
One suggestion...buy my badass 2200 turbo kit
. It put down 275hp & 306 torque at 15-16 psi of boost.

-1996 2.4 liter + Turbo + Built motor + Torco + More boost = Lots o' Power
-2000 Mustang GT + 2004 Cobra motor, Whipple 2.3 supercharger,
built rear-end,Dodge Viper spec T56 6 speed, bolt-ons = wheelies at the track!!!!!

I'm not boosted, but i know that you are def gonna need a new bottom end low miles or not, these engines can't take much from what i am told it isn't too safe to go ovver 7-8pounds of boost on stock, i could be wrong, just what i am told. Anyways, if you are lookin for a FULL build on a 2200, i made this list up awhile ago with athe help of NJHK and a few others, these are the cheapest prices i could find for each item. doesn't include turbo stuff and there are things i wanna change on it... but here ya go

thats a great write up
the only method of fuel delivery I see is the pump and the SAFC II.
iirc, you will need more then just the safc because it is not boost referenced.
you may need something like an adjustable FMU, which is a bandaid method, but its proven.

These 2.2 ohv can take a little bit of abuse. There have been stock internal 2.2s running atleast 10psi of boost with a good tune without any problems putting out over 200hp.
Email me or PM me to talk about pricing.

yeah i know that 2200 can take about 10 on a good tune, but no saying how long it is gonna last, i'll PM you about a price but i am pretty sure i can't afford it i am just curious as to what you are sellin it for..
yeah Steve i know fuel needs worked out, i don't even have injectors on there, ii don't know much about what i need it was just all me askin question and NJHK answerin them and i go hunt for a good part for the best price lol as for S-AFC II that is one thing i wanted to change, since my build isn't gonna be done for a few year probably i was hoping i could just wait for HPs software cause that stuff is gonna be top of the line and have the best bang for your buck

Im looking to turbo my 2200 this winter. Mines an auto trans though, does that matter any?
The auto trans wouldnt matter, my kit will still work on your car. Are you ready to buy?

go megasquirt (preferable) or emanage. SAFC is a worthless hunk of crap when it comes to real tuning.
And, first thing you should know before going ahead with a 2200 build is that its NOT an SOHC. Its a cam-in-block engine, with OverHeadValves, not a SingleOverHeadCam.

Don't listen to what you're told. I still believe NOBODY has bent a rod/crank/snapped a piston on one of these engines. Everything I've seen to date has been maintenance/detonation induced. If you don't take care of the engine, it won't take care fo you.
Wasn't some guy recently running 15 psi before he melted a piston (only running an FMU or something)?
The OHV is a workhorse, don't underestimate it.
Oh yeah, just about everything on that list is next-to worthless for a street-driven turbo engine
Why spend so much for slightly better flow (if you want flow, port the stupid head), just TURN UP THE BOOST to compensate, that's why you put the turbo on right?

I ran 8 psi with FMU and stock injectors. Leans out on 6 psi, but ran for a year and no problem. that was my first kit. upgrade injectors will help you get all the power you should have from that level of pressure. I've ran a total of 3 kits in 2 years.
Adler,
How long is your oil feed line for your kit?
Ya the 2.2 can take some abuse i got my 2nd motor in on fri night and am at 9 psi but blew a piston in the old one at 15psi, and its due to a backfire letting off the gas so i honestly think a perfectly tuned 2.2 will do 15psi reliably.

perfectly tuned with the perfect plugs. otherwise... bad things can happen.
