2.4L stock interals?
Thursday, October 06, 2005 6:12 PM
Ive searched and seemed to not come up with what i really wanted to find out. Right now ik im burning oil in my 2.4L even though there is only 92k on the motor. So i figure i have to tear it down and replace all the gaskets.....my question is how much can the stock internals take in terms of horse power? ik this comes up a lot with ecos but never can seem to find it regards to 2.4L . reason i ask it that idk if i would be able to afford both a complete rebuild and a g/m supercharger.....maybe even the M62 charger....if all that works out....Ik i want a supercharger but would it really be necessary to do much engine work.....maybe the head but other that that? help would be apreciated as always

eh depends on the tune. there are those running 14 psi boost on stock internals with a good turbo setup and tune. which is in excess of 250 whp.

I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

the stock internals can handle a max of 275HP but thats running it at the very limit and assuming its tuned perfectly. as for the burning oil problem try removing the hose from your intake that comes from the oil exchanger box on the front of the block under the intake manifold and put a kn crank case breather on the hose and plug the hole on your intake even a new motor will suck in lots of oil with that line still attached at high RPM

If you're burning oil like that, you want new piston rings, not necessarily gaskets.

proof?

Ok thanks for the info so far. Would it really be worth delaying boosting for a year to build the bottom end of my motor? i mean all i want to run is the gm charger at no more than 10PSI due to it being a daily driver. So far ive decided that i will be doing most likely my piston rings this winter anything else i should do while im in there? Also one last question is will my stock cluth hold up? its very good and grips very well w/o slipping but will it handle the extra power?
Thanks for all ur help

If you're noticing any problems, adding any boost will just make them worse. Get your engine running tip-top before throwing anything on it. If you're willing to do a full overhaul, that would obviously be the best (you will have to have the engine out to be honed for new rings anyway, so why not?). Also, 10 psi on the GM charger will bring problems not related to the new positive pressure, such as heat soak. There's a reason everyone on here isn't running around with a 2" pulley

clutch will last but not forever... your motor will last but not forever.... it's called "forced induction" for a reason !!!

Geeze!!

heat soak is deadly !!!
Turbo it !! with a FMIC and your good to go !!
