Almost there (Boosted)

So I started my car last nite after checking and rechecking everything. Fired right up....idled kinda rough....right around 1000rpms. It has been down since Feb. So I kinda expected it not to fire right away. I am a HAAS victim. So I have basically peiced my own system together. My question is I had some white smoke coming from the exhaust. I searched and couldn't find anything pertinant to a turbo setup. Is this normal and will it go away. The only other problem I had was an oil pan leak. So off it comes for a reseal. I need to hook up the SAFC-2 and my LM-1 and try to get this baby tuned. Any thoughts would be a great help. Thanks to all who post on the org. you are all a big help.

is the white smoke still there or just something when you started up after not starting it for like 6 months?

It's still there.....its not alot but is noticable. I don't know if the 120 degree temps we are having in vegas is affecting it lol!
Maybe it will go away if I let it idle for a while. I only run it for a few minutes at idle due to the oil leak.

it should go away after you let it idle for a little while. i think a lot of turbo cars smoke a little bit during the initial stages.

ya hopefully it will go away....pay attention to water temp's and whatever you do GET that wideband hooked up, it makes a world of difference.... may even want to run it a little rich on break in if its a fresh engine, did you just rebiuld this or what? white is usually water, blueish grey is oil, and black is fuel... so watch.....good luck man

mine used to do it after I whooped the hell out of the car, that was just the bad seals, new turbo doesnt do it at all, sometimes a little smell of oil smoke but that is only when I am on it hard for a while

Thanks for all your input....greatly appreciated. I restarted again today and let it idle for a few minutes. The smoke seemed more like a slight haze now, still with a white tinge, really smells like fuel too. But if it was rich the smoke would be black. Maybe I am just paranoid. My oil pressure is 60 to 70 psi. I have a oil line restrictor for my turbo feed line if I need it. I will remove and replace the oil pan this weekend. I use the black rtv silicone. Any recomendations for something better. What a waist of 5 new quarts of synthetic oil. I don't won't to r and r the oil pan again for a leak.

Hey Brian,

I am willing to bet it's your oil pressure. i had the same issue and so did Troy. Both of us with HAAS kits. We both threw on a oil pressure gauge and a valve. At idle I am sitting at 10psi. WOT I am around 30 PSI. 60-70 PSI is way too much for the turbo that came with the HAAS kit. Hope this helps you out and glad to see your finally getting this car running!!!!

Hey James, yeah finally. It has been a long process....but she started thats a good sign. Anyway where did you get your oil pressure gauge and valve. Did you put it inline along the braided feed line or at the turbo itself.
I have done about all the mods I can to my car while I have had it down. All that is left really is the MSD DIS2 ignition system. Hows your car treating you. Let me know about the gauge and the valve if you get the chance. Thanks
