While Tuning for 18 Psi Something Bad Happened....
Friday, July 15, 2005 2:13 PM
well lets just say my turbo gave out before the ecotec engine... I was tuning and all of a sudden boost just dropped and smoke followed. I Checked all my Charge Pipes they all seem to be connected, Seems like the turbo siezed up on me. When i Took off the Down pipe flange, the turbo had aot of shaft play i knew that wasnt good.

Man, this sucks i was supposed to be going to the track today and now im stuck with a smoking cavalier that cant build boost for @!#$.

So i guess im out of comission for a while till i have enough money got a GT35r.

If anyone has any hook ups with turbo Prices please let me know. Thanks!

Hey man i feel your pain. I had the same thing happen to me at the end of last season. You can try www.forcedfab.com and see what they have left in stock. I bought my new t3-t4 through them for $525 but i am also friends with the owners.

But yeah you are down, suncavi is down and i am also down. I am tearing my tranny out tomorrow to see what the problem is. I either broke some flywheel bolts or something with my clutch is rattling/clunking. Also i just received my M/T slicks today : )

But good luck with getting it fixed.

You must have gotten a bad turbo or just heat soaked the one you had. Time to upgrade to a larger a/r

Sucks that it's gonna cost you $$$$$, but sweet that you can use this opportunity to upgrade Try to look at what little bright side there is. I'm routing for you bro, even if you do pimp an eco, lol.

yea the gt35r is going to cost a good amount of money, but i figure if im going to get a new turbo might as well save up a little more and get one that i will be happy with

The turbo has been ragged on i abused it alot, ive had it for about 2.5 years going on 3, the turbo was new when i first bought it, so if anyone to blame to its malfunction i guess it would be me.

Actually JDM Cav sedan, i wish it would of been the motor would of been alot cheaper. But of course it wasnt, it had to be the turbo, the only thing that didnt get replaced in my whole 2.4 to 2.2 swap.

i may also have damaged my Rack and pinion, my steering has some play in it, i turn the wheel the car dont turn. I kinda accelerated to hard on a turn and i was going striaght while the wheel was turned sucks.

Ill let you know exactly whats wrong tomorrow when i start to take it apart.

Why a GT35R? You are going to pay out the ass for ball bearing! Talk to the guys at Precision Turbo, they'll hook ya up.

Why do you want such a huge turbo? A GT35R good for about 650hp and you're trying to make how much?

well my current turbo was rated for 550 horsepower, i want to make as much power as i can with little boost.

I want to be boosting 30 psi in a couple of weeks but that might be pushes back a little due to me not having a turbo. Im looking for 400-425hp.

Anyways i took off the turbo, it looks like the compressor side siezed up and the exahust side had to much momentum it just wanted to keep spinning so it broke free from the shaft. here are the pics:

looking at the pictures........ you may want to check out your blow off valve. Make sure you have the vacuum hooked up correctly on it and make sure it is rated high enough. Turbine shafts don't just split for no reason. That takes A LOT of torque.

SunCavi ain't down hoes!!!!
I have this issue with the pressure plate tho, sucks man the pedal only goes in like half way when at extreme conditions.(6500rpm & 12psi).
I am going to the track tomorrow so I hope I didn't speak too soon.
Noone wants to go with me tho, so if I cannot get anyone to go with me then I probably won't go and btw it is 4:00am right now and I just got back from races and the track is open from 9-5 tomorrow.

I raced a fox body 5.0 with a cam, gear, intake manni, cold air, some other crap.
Freight trained him nasty style.
and I was suppose to race this SS that beat me about 2 cars from 40 to 120 when I was at 8 psi and now I am at 12, but he raced a Z06 and missed hard and he is going to check his pushrods and might meet up tomorrow for the Sunday night meet and run him.

Quaife and a SpecIII should be at my house Wednesday or so, flywheel is soooooo lonely waiting here.
